There's still almost a day left. It will be interesting to see what it ends at. It's the first one I've ever seen like that so it must be pretty rare.

I would bet money it's not a casting. I don't think it would hold up if made out of grey iron. I bet it's a forging. If a guy built the dies, you could make a bunch of them but then they wouldn't be worth the price of tooling probably. ??? |

CTucker is right. I know a guy in the forging business and the dies are big bucks to get made. Now if you could find the original dies that would make it fairly cheap but I bet you'd have better luck winning the loto than you would finding the original dies.

That is a casting, not a forging, you can see how it is cored out in the center, probably ductile iron, Allis used a lot of it.

Yep, cast from nodular iron... but as noted, Allis was really a master of castings.
Notice he says 'not bent, broken or welded on'... If they're rare because they're bent, broken, or welded-on, it's because they were frequently found in a scenario where the applied stresses exceeded the item's capacity... If it was that expensive, and fragile enough to worry, I wouldn't put it on my tractor anyway. I'm not rich... and I HATE changing out broken parts, with soon-to-be-broken parts. ;-) |

$172.50 with 6 hours to go .. Now why could it not be made of steel and cut and shaped on mill. Seems to look like someone with a Bridgeport could make it easily.

Is it that important to have an original AC casting? I could machine that up in less that an hour out of scrap steel. Restoration aside, I would never pay that much for a piece. Skip is right, look for give aways and piece them out! Our economy is saved! Start a whole new segment employing at least 5 people. I am surprized Obama has not started that business up, give him a call.

For those of you that think it'd be easy...make one, take some pictures and put a price tag on it. I'd buy one if you can make it as cheap as some here think it could be done.

To get the price down you would have to set up a production run. A CNC machine to kick out 1 or 2 thousand. Then after you sell the first 5 or 10 the market would be flooded and you would be sitting on 1990 of them.
Buisness plan needs a little more work before you jump into that.

Yeah I think we are beating a dead horse here...those that want them only want the originals....and those that need them find there is a better way to do it. These had a tendency to bend the tube they were mounted on.

No, one person thought it was worth $199.50. The other person thought it was only worth $199.00 (or whatever the next lowest increment was). LOL |

Probably could simplify the part for working and add some strength by starting with two cubes of steel the size off the square. Stack them together, drill the big hole along that seam, and two bolt holes through both pieces. Its done. Maybe could be shorter in one direction than the cubes. I presume the big hole for the hitch pivot is only half in this part. This way of doing it would require longer bolts, but bolts are cheaper than removing excess steel.

I would like to meet the second highest bidder. I have a NOS one of these that i would sell him for that price in a hart beat. I had it at the Hutchinson show and no one even looked at it. I had the priced lower than what this one went for. Matt

That is the beauty of collecting this AC stuff, nice to see what you have turn out to be worth a little bit of money. And no I was not either of the bidders. Dave.
