i have a 5 foot drag behind "brush hog" and i would like to get a bigger like 6 footer to pull behind WD-45.  the 5 footer i need to overlap since the tractor is like 6 foot wide.  However I cant seem to find a used 6 foot drag behind in my area.  How much trouble is it to buy a 3-point hitch adapter and the get a 6 foot 3-point mower? does the hydraulic lift need to run all the time or what holds the front of the mower up?

Did you ever consider setting your drawbar in the "long" position and then swinging it fully to one side or the other ?? That would surely gain you six inches and you'd just have to mow in lands.

Keep looking for a pull type you won't be happy with a 3pt behind the WD45.They are out there in fact I have 2 AC 6ft pull type cutters.WD45 could handle a 7 or 8 ft depending on what you are cutting.

I have an Allis 5 ft snap coupler that I run on my 45 diesel most of the time. It makes the front end very light on it.

I have ran it on my straight WD but the front needs weight.

Have a neighbor who runs a 9 or 10 foot pull type brush mower on a WD but he never lets his grass/ weeds get too big.

A Wood's C80 is a good fit for a WD, WD45. Pull type, 80 inch cut, single action hyd lift and built right. I mowed some with one around waterways, property lines and sheds but didn't use it enough, so I sold it. It gave my WD all it wanted when you hit some 6' Johnson grass. Bad part, getting hit in the back by rocks, debris. Don't look back without safety glasses. Good luck.

That is a bad part, plus the dust in the fall…
I did some fall mowing last year and when I got home I looked like a straw man!!

I have a 5 foot 3 pt Woods brush hog on a WD45 that works well. I use hydraulic cylinder restrictors set at a level cutting height, that way the hydraulics are always down while cutting and not constantly pumping pressure to the cylinders. But yes I do have to overlap but at times the 45 is giving all its got in heavier brush.

The hydraulic pump does NOT have to "pump" to carry the front of the mower. It has to "hold". Depth collars would be one way to do that, but not needed if the hyd pumps hold valve is in good working order.
