BTDT  I customized the new layout as far as I could go to strip it down to be like the old. 4-5 lines each listing is the best it will let me do.

This one's too high, Jeff. Post the ads for the Series IVs in your area that are $3K and under. With them being available all day in your area for less than $3K you must have have plenty of ads to pic from.

Still no bids with three hours to go.
Maybe if it was priced right there would be 15 bids.
One of you guys still have a shot at it since you think it's priced right.

Ebay is an auction without being able to kick the tires or hear it run check the clutch or look for puddles ect. I wouldn't pay over 75% of what I think it's worth at an auction I'm at in person, so I wouldn't pay over 50% for something I'm just looking at pictures and discribed by some one I don't know. D17d IV that you know the history of and the owner has a grease gun and changes fluid and filters as needed is worth 5k. So at auction the price would be 3.5k and ebay should be 2.5k by my worped cheap yankee logic. I paid $2200 for my D17d IV ten years ago and my D17 gas three stripe was $1500 both at Macfaddens auction in NY. If the starting price was 2k with a reserve of 4k if he wanted to part with it. He could have listed it to apease his wife, that he has too many tractors, he may not want to realy sell it! That wasn't a sexist thought was it?

You cant even touch a tractor that looks like that around here for less than $3,000. Most will start there and end up at 5 or $6,000. Thats for series 4's . I know where one is that looks like new with original paint (has some paint off where feet sit) and 2800 original hours, I dont think it has ever been rained on for $7000.

Boy, it looks like a five or six grand tractor around here.  But, as others have mentioned, it means a lot to be able to kick the tires and hear it run.

Looks like a 5 grand tractor around here, but buying a tractor based on photos only is very risky!! Maybe mices chewed up the wiring or something. Ryan

...jeff, so let me get this straight- just because i don't bid on it means its not priced rite?? so everything that  i see that has a good price i should buy regardless of if i need it or have the money?? just because someone dosen't bid dosen't always mean that its too high... i don't know what part of ny you are from but iam also in ny and most d-17s i have seen are  in the range of 2,500-6,000 depending on condition... the junk ones still bring 3,000.... been to alot of auctions and dealerships and just ones i find one the road. even a tractor that dosen't run brings enough money it seems..  not eveeryone had an extra 5,000 to bid on this tractor or maybe its too far for someone to go if thety don't have a trailer.. Alot of things go into buying something.. and with this economy not evryone has extra cash

If you take a thousand off an otherwise fair-priced tractor only because the mice chewed the wiring, I'd snap the tractor up in a heartbeat. Rewiring is easily done.

That 17 was in the ball park at least. In my opinion this tractor...

Allis Chalmers D19 Tractor 70 Hp 6 cyl Gas AGCO

Is WAY out in left field... Of a different ball park in a whole other world...

Again just my opinion and we all know what opinions are like...

I guess what I am saying is at least the 17 mentioned looks original where the 19 obviously used to be a diesel that now has a gas combine engine cobbled into it...

One mans junk is another's treasure...

Price is all relative...

I'm just greatfull for the ones that I have been able to save and probably wouldn't sell any of my series IV's for less than that, but thankfully I am not in the position that I have to sell anything at the moment :-) nor do I have the funds saved up to purchase anymore :-(

I agree in NY that would go for under $3k possibly $2,900. I have a D17 series 1 with the same loader and manual trip. I dont know the lift capability but with the small bucket I would have to lift gold to test it. Anyone have some bars of gold laying around?

Well if that's what you think then that's what you think.
I never said anything about your bidding habbits or what you should buy.
You should not try to words in someone elses mouth.
I stated I thought it was priced high.
I've seen many here in NY for less.
One right now in Amsterdam.

It kinda seems like the prices are different around the country or something, some say to high others say it's priced right.  My personal feelings is top dollar for our area here in Northeast Nebraska would be around $4500 on the Ebay Series IV with loader unit.  With that being said if that tractor was in our location around here I think it would have sold for the $5,000 pretty easily because there is enough people in this area that apperciate a good looking orginial Allis like this and if you didn't jump on it you would see your neighbor driving it around and then you'd be kicking yourself cause you didn't buy it.
