Looks like a pretty clean machine. Only thing I would question is how much the trip bucket loader will lift with those small diameter cylinders and low pressure hydraulics....

On a series IV for the trip loader doesn't have much value. Undoubtedly a dealer if you have to pay sales tax and the opening bid is probably about where the sales price should be.

Jeff, if you can buy a Series IV in that condition for $3000 and under start buying them up, I"ll be out to pick them up when you get a load.

$5K still seems a little high to me. I haven't seen any series IV tractors for $3K but I've seen them in that condition (without loader) for $4K. Also add the fact that sometimes buying a tractor on ebay can be a big risk. The only way I'd ever buy a tractor off of ebay is if I could go and inspect it in person or get it at a real bargain. Personally, I wouldn't bid over $3K on the tractor in question because I haven't inspected it.

IMO, trip bucket loaders are kind of neat on old tractors but they are kind of useless. The loader on that tractor wouldn't add any value to me.

Not really a special loader, but the cylinders are different for the lower psi...

Now that I look at it closer they don't look like the low psi cylinders? They look smaller diameter than the ones I have, could just be the picture and my bad eyes...

I agree with most of the posts.  I think people make a mistake by asking too high a starting price.  Even if it is worth it, bidders like to think they are setting the price, not the seller.  Should have a reserve with a lower starting price.  I've learned to not bid until a few hours or less before the end of sale.  Sometimes people don't want to go as high or don't pay attention until it's too late.

Sign of the times..the economy. Money's tight, very few jobs, all low paying.( I've never met a rich farmer in my neck of the woods(til he sold his land, sigh)).
The tractor may be nice but unless you've got $5,000 cash lying around ...
I've noticed a drop in the 'value' of lawn tractors, snowblowers, implements, cars and trucks. Heck, grabbed a 97 F150 Xl,<50,000 miles for $500 delivered. So it's now a buyer's market for the deals.
If I had a job, made extra cash, I could buy a LOT of tractors here, but couldn't resell as no one has any 'hobby' money.

They run between $3-4K in my area.  A diesel in really good shape with good tires might fetch $5k on a good day.

Last fall I was at a auction and a D17Iv sold for 3K+ a few hundred (can't remember exactly how much) had straight tin and ran nice, after sale new owner drove it to parking lot to load and said with a frown that it had a "growl" in rearend. always a risk buying at auction without oportunity for a complete inspection and test drive.

You sure couldn't tear up the loader with those lift cylinders on it but it would cycle real fast. It wouldn't take a whole lot to change the cylinders and add a hydraulic dump, but the price they're asking, that work should already be done.

Why no bids????

Maybe because eBay (evilBay) has made it so hard to search for, and find things, that only the most dedicated bargain hunters still frequent their site. The sad fact is that those people KNOW what things are worth and won't get taken for a sucker. The neophytes have long since given up on using the site, and if they do find an auction, it is by chance, not design. Remember, even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then....

Used to be able to get a search with one line of information, that you got to choose. Now you get the picture and 3-4 lines of info on each listing, plus the dang "toolbar" on the right side, and the picture, and it takes 4 or more times as long to go through a page of listings.
Now imagine that you are spending a Sunday evening scrolling through "allis" listings (multiple hundreds+ pages) looking for neat stuff.... , I am not as young and knowledgeable as you, I got to go to bed sometime, so I cannot spend the whole night looking through eBay listings....... 5 am comes earlier every year it seems....

I'm looking at a 170 gas job for 4K...rims and sheet metal are better and it has more original paint on it. The series 4 has a high volume low pressure more modern hydraulic system  and is essentially the same system as on the early 170s. That's a freeman loader, have one I don't use...same rams ...off a 2cyl JD.  Can't grease the "pins"..they could be worn..I agree with most.. the loader is worth practically nothing. I would say the unit is maybe worth 3-4 k around here...MAX

I think most people would put a 417 or 517 all hydraulic loader on a Series 4, not too many with a trip bucket.

BTDT  I customized the new layout as far as I could go to strip it down to be like the old. 4-5 lines each listing is the best it will let me do.

Ebay is an auction without being able to kick the tires or hear it run check the clutch or look for puddles ect. I wouldn't pay over 75% of what I think it's worth at an auction I'm at in person, so I wouldn't pay over 50% for something I'm just looking at pictures and discribed by some one I don't know. D17d IV that you know the history of and the owner has a grease gun and changes fluid and filters as needed is worth 5k. So at auction the price would be 3.5k and ebay should be 2.5k by my worped cheap yankee logic. I paid $2200 for my D17d IV ten years ago and my D17 gas three stripe was $1500 both at Macfaddens auction in NY. If the starting price was 2k with a reserve of 4k if he wanted to part with it. He could have listed it to apease his wife, that he has too many tractors, he may not want to realy sell it! That wasn't a sexist thought was it?

You cant even touch a tractor that looks like that around here for less than $3,000. Most will start there and end up at 5 or $6,000. Thats for series 4's . I know where one is that looks like new with original paint (has some paint off where feet sit) and 2800 original hours, I dont think it has ever been rained on for $7000.

Boy, it looks like a five or six grand tractor around here.  But, as others have mentioned, it means a lot to be able to kick the tires and hear it run.

If you take a thousand off an otherwise fair-priced tractor only because the mice chewed the wiring, I'd snap the tractor up in a heartbeat. Rewiring is easily done.

I guess what I am saying is at least the 17 mentioned looks original where the 19 obviously used to be a diesel that now has a gas combine engine cobbled into it...

One mans junk is another's treasure...

Price is all relative...

I'm just greatfull for the ones that I have been able to save and probably wouldn't sell any of my series IV's for less than that, but thankfully I am not in the position that I have to sell anything at the moment :-) nor do I have the funds saved up to purchase anymore :-(

Well if that's what you think then that's what you think.
I never said anything about your bidding habbits or what you should buy.
You should not try to words in someone elses mouth.
I stated I thought it was priced high.
I've seen many here in NY for less.

My opinion this is a much nicer tractor than the subject of the OP.

It kinda seems like the prices are different around the country or something, some say to high others say it's priced right.  My personal feelings is top dollar for our area here in Northeast Nebraska would be around $4500 on the Ebay Series IV with loader unit.  With that being said if that tractor was in our location around here I think it would have sold for the $5,000 pretty easily because there is enough people in this area that apperciate a good looking orginial Allis like this and if you didn't jump on it you would see your neighbor driving it around and then you'd be kicking yourself cause you didn't buy it.

My neighbor is an 87 year old lady with a walker.
I don't think so.

Well Jeff I guess if we had more 87 year old ladies with walkers around here for neighbors like you got it would sell for less here.  With close to 14 posts on the subject I think we all get the picture that you feel it's to high priced, why you continue to add comments poking fun at people who are just adding honest opinions on the subject of what they think it's worth if it was in there area remains unknown to most or all of us.  Please add your 15th post to this subject and answer that, we are all eagerly awaiting what you have to say next...well...not really.

Sometimes things just go right over your heads and you don't get it but that's ok because if you did get it, it wouldn't be any fun.

Complex (psychology), a group of mental factors that are unconsciously associated by the individual with a particular subject and influence the individual's attitude and behavior

So that's my problem and for all these years I just thought I was nuts.

Well if that's what you think then that's what you think.
I never said anything about your bidding habbits or what you should buy.
You should not try to words in someone elses mouth.
I stated I thought it was priced high.
I've seen many here in NY for less.
One right now in Amsterdam.

.... ACTUALY YOU WERE SAYING OR TELLING EVRTYONE TO BUY OR BID ON IT... ALL THIS POST WAS A OPINON ON WHY THE TRACTOR DIDN'T HAVE A BID. THERE ARE DIFFERENT PRICES IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE COUNTRY. AND YOU WERE THE ONE THAT STARTED THE NONSENSE... AS I SAID BEFORE I AM IN NY AND UNLESS YOU ARE BUYING JUNK IT WILL COST 3,000 - 5,000.. A JUNK ONE BRINGS 2,000.00.. JUST TELLING YOU MY PERSPECTIVE ON IT OR WHAT I HAVE SEEN. I HAVE BOUGHT AND SOLD ALOT OF TRACTORS

he location it was in 9 out of 10 times it would have been a piece of junk

First of all you can't read.
I just posted it's priced to high. That's an opinion on why no bids.
You guys started the rest.
And I never told anyone to bid or not to bid.
Please copy and paste where I told someone to bid or not to bid.
