Thanks for showing the pictures. Really like Son's 4040, Cab, P.S. with FWA. We are in row crop country here, 13.6x38 tires. Are those 9.5x15 front tires? I have heard about the utility model, just never seen one. Have had a lot of JDs from the 20 to 40 series. At one time I had 4840, 4640 and 2 4440's, had to cut back and farmed with 4240's for years. Had to get out of farming in '92 because of my health, went to work for a small city in water department before I had to take early retirement for health reasons. Sold most of the land, kept a 2550 mfwd with cab and a 2520. Now Son is farming. I have bought several to fix up and play with, 4000 and a 3020, both P.S....James

That is...following the widely accepted theory John Deere has always been 30 years behind everyone else.

John Deere just lets everyone else do their R&D for them. Wink

The 4040  did not come with a turbo.  You could bolt on a M&W turbo kit and turn the screw and hang some weights on it she will pull anything a 4430 will. But with with a smaller radiator she will run hotter on hot days and with the smaller fuel tank you will be making more trips to the pump.

Deere figured out that a lot of guys were doing this so shortly after the 4050 came out they started putting a smaller (359) turbocharged engine in it rather than a natural aspirated version of the 466 that powered the larger tractors so you couldn't bolt on a turbo and have a size larger tractor.
