?Wet Sleeves or Head Gasket? Thoughts?

Wondering what to do -   is putting transmission fluid or some light oil in radiator an option (I know this may be STUPID) but just wondering if it might seal old O rubber O rings on sleeves ..    
I think I will test first the taking off of pan (draining oil) and then slightly pressurizing the radiator to see if it is the head or sleeves .. .   

What do you think ?

I have been on here so many times about my C engine that I am embarrassed. 
I am getting water in my oil . even though the engine runs perfect now .. after cleaning everything and putting it back together . 

I did not realize at first it had wet sleeves .. never heard of them .. and also .. I pounded the sleeves that came up with the cylinder .. hope I didn't destroy something .

here are a couple of videos .. I got the head back on and it runs GREAT but leaks water in the crankcase oil ... 
did I ruin the sleeves rubber rings? or maybe the head gasket is not sealed . not sure what I should do next .   Thanks much ...    Gary

I'd lay odds you ruined the rubber rings. Did you replace the head gasket after pulling the head? The first thing you can do is pull the pan and pressurize the cooling system. If the sleeves (or sleeve) leaks you may was well throw a kit into it anyway. Bfore doing that pull the head and look CAREFULLY for any cracks or a bad head gasket. Once partway into an engine you may as well go al the way.

Yes Doug ..   I did replace the head gasket ..     with a new one. (My first time doing it and torqued the head to 60#'s per manual ..   (online manual) ...  

The ATF idea is stupid right? n (ha) ...

Did you check the frost plugs in the head? They are known to rust out and allow ant-freeze in the coolant.
Search on this forum for more info. I hope that's your problem (much easier and less expensive than the alternatives).

Pull the pan off (simple job) If you have bad O-rings you will see antifreeze/water drip from bottom of offending sleeve or sleeves. Leave over night with cardboard on floor no need to pressurize in my experiance.    If all you need to do is replace O-rings you can remove sleeves with piston and rod in them.

Hold the phone......If you had a sleeve come up out of the block when you were working on the engine, and all you did was "pound it back down" not knowing the history of this issue, my money is on damaged o-rings on the sleeve.

I'm with you Anthony on the O-rings are cut, I watched his video of the sleeve moving up as the engine was turning and the sleeve getting driven back down with a hammer, it made the hair stand up on the back of my head.Shocked Ouch

Maybe you could get by just replacing the one sleeves O-rings but if it were me I would do them all because with my luck a different one would start leaking a month after I had it back together.

I agree.  Pull the pan, and look at the bottoms of the cylinders.  My money is on the O rings:

Yes ..  I did ..  they had oil in them ..  so I "assumed" they were fine . . (meaning ..  oil was staying in them and not leaking through I figure there were no holes ..   )

I have never taken a piston or rod out before .  but I am assuming I will need new rod bearings when I put it back together - if I have to take it apart .. the tappet cover is off now.... (?)

No on the bearings.  Just keep track of direction and only do 1 cylinder at a time.  You will need a pan gasket though.

Thanks Orange Blood ..    I didn't even know it had wet sleeves when I took the head off to get everything soaked in oil and atf ..   etc ..   
and yes .  I did pound the sleeve back down .   

I am going to do the "pulling the pan" thing first to see if the sleeves are leaking water ..  and then ..   follow up with the rest .

Sounds like it is the O ring or rings ..    

Going to do the "drip on cardboard" test first . ..  then examine the head for cracks .. etc ..

When you have the sleeve/piston out, use a dremel with a wire brush to clean up the O-ring groves (block and sleeves) and their tapers in the block and the "lip" on the block that the sleeve drops into. "Dry fit the sleeve (no O rings) into the hole, it should drop in nicely. Then apply the 0-ring lubricant to the O-rings (and groves/tapers) and install the O-rings on the sleeves, relube as needed. There are 2 kinds of O-ring materials; one resistant to oil and one resistant to antifreeze; install them in the proper places on the sleeve (Oil resistant on top and Antifreeze resistant on bottom). I have used Olive oil successfully as the lubricant, altho there are commercially available lube available from the vendors. Drop the sleeves in and press the in place by hand; a piece of wood over the top of the sleeve may be useful to apply the pressure evenly. Patience and persistence is in order here.

um...it is getting oil in radiator?  that's what the original post said!!!  that will only happen when coolant is at a lower pressure than the oil.  check the oil cooler or for a crack in a casting where oil and coolant near each other

Actually you are reading it incorrectly.  He is asking if putting some light oil in the radiator might help.  The second post kinda clarifies, he is getting water in the oil pan.  Also as a side note, these tractors don't have oil coolers, but if they did, and oil really was getting into the water, your thought would be spot on!!!
