How long does acrylic enamel with hardener take to cure? To the point that you can assemble the painted parts without scraping it off. 88 degreees 75% humidity. It has been 24 hours and is still soft. Sherwin Williams Dimension 5A.

I use Valspar on the can it says you can handle after 15 minutes when hardner is used. I usually clean the gun then assemble the tractor. If its still soft after 24 hoirs your looking at a repaint

Give it more time. I also use the Valspar but usually wait 24 hours. Can't say how long is too long but I'd give it a day or two more before I started stripping it off again.

Did you paint with AE without harder and then top it off with a coat adding hardener?
It may never harden specially with high humidity.
I just did a google search with your question and in one forum a guy said you might have to wait a couple months for it to stiffen up. If it's laid on thick, it may never harden

I'v never painted with 75
I've never painted with75% humidity but something dosn't sound right. I have used Omni single stage polly urithane and also Vancycle for the cheap paint job both with hardner added and theyare ready for assembly the next day or sooner.

also time of day is critical. at morning or evening dewfall i've had "never harden" experiences. indoors (open shed) or out.

Proportions of reducer and hardener, 8P : 2R : 1H per data sheet. I used the cups with ratio marks. I used the 4:1:1 set, only going half way to the hardener line to give a 4 : 1 : 0.5 ratio. I hope I didn't shoot myself in the foot. Data sheet says should be able to buff after 24 hours air dry. After 31 hours is is still a little soft, no way could it be buffed. I am a little concerned. One response was maybe repaint. Yikes! I just remember in the old days with oil based and acrylic enamel waiting days for it to harden. Within a week, some spilled gas used to loosen up the paint. The new paint giving off smells for a long time.

if it is hot there as it is here it wont dry right paint should dry from the inside out if it is to hot it will dry from the outside in and takes along time to dry and you dont get a good shine eather . it forms a seal that dryes on the out side and is still wet under neath.hope you can understand what i mean.

Keep it out of direct sunlight, give it a few more days. If you got it on thick it''ll take a while. Did you use high temp reducer? Most automotive paint does not dry fully for 90 days in my opinion, so give it some time youve got nothing to lose. Trev.

This heat and humidity we are having is probably the cause. I painted a few parts a week ago and it was one of those days. The next day you still could not touch it without leaving a finger print. I thought the paint was defective(just a rattle can) and was going to take it back. After a week it finally hardened. I think its like one of the others said if it gets a skin on it and you have layed it on to thick its going to trap the reducer so you will have to wait longer. Pro Painters might chime in here but there is even more variables
when your using automotive paint. The data they give you is based on being in a booth with lots of ventilation using the proper reducer for the conditions, flash times, and how many mills thick the paint is. Don't panic and give it a week and keep your fingers crossed.

Try a heat gun or a heat lamp on a small area and see what happens. Bet it hardens.

I have used SW paints for some time and the only suggestion I have is give it a bit more time, air flow is much more important than heat this time of year at hi temps and hi humidity solvents take longer to gas off... if you park a fan to blow across them it will help the cure but it will take longer as your mixing ratio was not as per the data sheet. your nose will tell you when its dry. Something you may not know is that all these acrylic and urathane paints should be reduced first and mixed , (stirred) and then have the hardener added and stirred again. Waaay back when dupont had harders first available for centari problems developed Dupont paint clinics emphasized this procedure for mixing their product. I still follow it no matter whos product/ system I use. These components chemically link better after reduction. .

Before and after pictures. It is orange again. Ran out of time, did not reinstall the cultivators, headlights or wiring. Since paint was still hardening, did not strap down hood. New wheels, tires, seat, hood, seat back, battery box, toolbox. Used fenders, grill and gas tank reworked. New alternator. 72" track, corn was at 36 inches I guess.
