If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

[QUOTE=PaulB]Raise the hood and take a look see
![]() ![]() Can YOU determine the engine by "raising the hood" ????? It's NOT like it's imprinted on the air filter cover like on the engines of the era where you were conceived of in a back seat

If it has the 6.2ltr V8 gasoline engine, they were hard on fuel but had good power.
Not really something to get groceries with. The engine will be identified on the emissions sticker on either the radiator support, or air inlet piping.

Not really. The underside of the hood panel, atop the air filter element, as mentioned radiator support, and at times the actual engine cover. It can also be identified on the driver's door jamb decal but will take a decoder to decipher.

I guess I find this question a bit strange. I always knew what engines my parents' vehicles had, at least from the point I could drive. Then after we were married, I knew my wife's folks' vehicles as well. I guess that was because I helped take care of them. Each to their own.

Motor designations fall in the same catagory as blue ovals, rail road crossings, fish sandwich, chicken meals, gas prices, motorcycles, 8 ft truck beds....
what kind of idiot can not open the hood and READ what motor is installed ??

In the 2011 model F 250 the standard gasoline engine was the 6.2 liter. Thats what I have in my truck. I have always been a chevy man, but at that time I didn't think I wanted to reward the union for taking over GM so I bought a Ford. That engine is kind of frustrating to me, because it is an absolute dead dog until you hit the power band which starts at 3500 rpm. Hauling a load of 11 big round bales that engine is screaming most of the time. It has good power up there though, and it doesn't do to bad on gas when I'm just going to town. I wish the companies that make pickups would build a gasoline engine that would pull at 2500 rpm. They could too, but it's all about horsepower these days, and the figures have to look good on paper. You can't make impressive horsepower figures when the torque band is lower. But I'm thinking these trucks would get better mileage if the torque band was lower, because in normal highway driving the engine rpm would be closer to the sweet spot. Why don't one of you guys start making them.

If it's not a diesel it's a 6.2. May have 16 spark plugs.
8 on top under the coils and 8 down by the exhaust manifold.
