The last thing I put for sale on CL I listed it as, "Local purchase only". When I get a text for it I just look at the area code to determine my response. Text messages help!

I just got another private message referring me to someone that has a part I was looking for. He claimed that someone had one in Texas and when he's ordered things from this guy in the past they come in top shape 😉
The common between all of these is that they are brand new members with very few posts, so everyone beware!

Yep,I just got one from him too. So this makes at least 3 so far and this one is mg217 directing me to contact an Eliot in Texas.

mg217 contacted me yesterday regarding a post i made looking for a grille for a 170 and told me to contact Eliot in texas. I did, but after a few e-mails back and forth something just didn't feel right, so I didn't send him any money. This kind of crap is frustrating....

Isn't it a FEDERAL crime to swindle someone for money through the mail?
Just for a funny,,,,,,,next time you get to email this nut case, just tell him "instead of money, I have the vacation island I'll trade you for.s But since the island is worth a lot more than the fenders, you'll have to send me a check for $1000.00 to offset the difference." Bet you don't ever hear from them again....

Guys...
Ted is right- fraud crossing state lines is a federal offense. Using the mail service is a federal offense. Now, getting it prosecuted for a low-value is difficult, but having LOTS of people with same loss is far beyond petty fraud.
Everyone here knows how these guys' operations work... so rather than complain, STING them... get together, set a trap.
They're all the same in that you send them money. They have to receive it some how, and that can't be hidden, so when they give you the remittance target info, you've got both your locale, and your bait. You'll need a local detective (small town is best) calling the authorities in their locale, get a positive identity of that individual, and positively link them to several counts of fraud, and many attempts. At that point, they'll be in a bus to prison.
