Question about the power director on a D17 & D19............. On both tractors, the PD works find going back and forth between low and high. But when you slip it into neutral, the tractors don't stop, they keep moving forward. They seeming lose some forward momentum, but they don't completely stop. When I hold the brake, the tractor continues to fight itself. They are supposed to be able to come to a stop correct? Something wrong with both of them? Or just me? |

The adjustment could be a little tight or you could have warped discs. There is a certain amount of "drag" in them so it really depends how severe the problem is.
Does it still do it after the oil has warmed up?

When my oil is cold it will creap but when warm it will come to a stop with the PD in neutral.

Both my D-14s 'creep'...seems to be common, normal. The PD consists of 2 disc packs and can be 'challenging' to adjust to factory specs. It involves a complete teardown, something most of us aren't about to do.....

It could be the fluid is a little thick also. New 20wt Hytran fluid with a little flush of the system might be a good thing.

They will creep when in nuetral until warm.....some even creep a little when warm.....its the drag of the oil between the plates. If it is warm and you cannot stop it with the brakes, or the brakes do stop it but it loads the motor, then the clutch is not adjusted correctly
Non detergent 20W is the specified oil. That can be a little tough to find so I use AW32 and some use universal tractor hydrualic fluid, which all should be acceptable Edited by DonDittmar - 22 Dec 2011 at 11:11am |

It can be reduced if adjusted when warm. This is done by adjusting the neutral location of the stick. Loosen 2 nuts on the access cover in front of the handle, then you can move the handle to where the tractor does not creep as much. Done it several times.

On our dairy farm tractors were used daily and none (3 D-17s and one D-19) creeped at all when in nuetral. Every D series that I have test drove since then has creeped when in nuetral. An older man told me at an auction once if you took those tractors out and plowed all day with them it would probably cure it if nothing major was wrong.
