I have the original light and bracket that mounts under the seat on a 1948 c but the lenses are broken and missing. I know this light is very rare looks to be a two piece lense one on the bottom and the front possibly different colors. Does anyone know where I can get replacement lenses thanks

Those lamps are tough to find never mind just the lens'. You could try e-bay for starters. I remember there was an outfit making that original lamp assy. I remember seeing it advertised in OAN toward the back of the magazine. Maybe Stiener Tractor parts might have something? We have a replacement we sell which has plastic lens'....

I have to ask, is the cup lens red and the flat lens clear, or is it the other way around?

Michael, I had the same problem, and turned the internet upside down looking for something that would work. Re: the red glass cylinder "cup" lens, It worked pretty well to make one from a strip of thin plexi or lexan, bending it into a circular shape and tinting it with the red tail-light lens repair tape sold at auto parts stores.

For the clear, dish-shaped "flat" lens I scrounged ebay for a long time searching "clear railroad lamp lens" and such, but never came up with a passable clear lens the right diameter. I did find red ones the correct diameter, actually several in a lot, and if you or anyone wants a red one of let me know ;-)

At one time, Norm's Toys had a reproduction that was very correct other than the red cylindrical lens which was made of pinkish red plastic. The clear dish-shaped lens and the rest of the assembly was spot-on.

After all that I decided to be done with it, got off my billfold and bought an intact original. Those old B/C tail lights are really cool IMO and such a nice original touch.

Good to know, thanks Chad! I'd have to check, but I think have four or five of those red lenses.

The repo lights have the large red lens and the clear window lens.
They are manufactured for the antique auto market, which is where they originally came from. Aliis just had the lens colors reversed for their use. I found a plastic tail light lens for the clear and a round red tail light lens at a flea market several years ago. I never used them because I have 2 originals.
You can buy red plastic sheets and cut into a strip and warm it to bend it to fit. Bob

The photos from Bill and CrestonM are the original lights.  I remember selling them in our parts department.  The things we threw away.
I have no idea where you can get them today.
Good Luck!

Here are a couple of pics.  A person would really want some type of rubber/cork gasket to separate the glass.  And, please don't tell the loving wife I had the tractor parts on the dining room table!

So why are these lights so rare? Were they not standard equipment?

Funny story...when I got my B in 2009 (I was 11) I drove it around at night a little bit and couldn't figure out why the PO put such a dim little light back there. Then later I find out it's a rare original light!
Even so, I'd like to take it off and add another headlight for a work light. Then maybe I can actually see the plow behind me. This light is horribly dim.

My C has one. The glass is good, no chips, no cracks, knock on wood.
I made a new retaining clip, the original was rusted down to about ready to drop the glass! I painted the case PO1, was it supposed to be black? I remember searching for a higher wattage bulb, think I found something hotter than stock.

I have a couple NOS clear lens and a couple of used ones. The red curved one is the rarity around here.

I lucked out at a flea market and bought a complete one, in the original box, for $10.00.
It was a shame that it had rained earlier that day and the box was wet. Bob

It could be your bulb is a 12v. A 12v bulb will work, but a 6v bulb will burn a little brighter. Don't expect much though ;-)

Brian, in all the original B&W literature I've studied the case always appears to be black. I painted mine black. If that's wrong, it would be good to know. Does someone know for sure?

I am going have to plead ignorance. What is the point of the red lens on top? I have seen rear lights in the past with a switch that allowed it to be red or white but this i don't understand.
