Mechanic at MDOT Garage was supposed to wear a Bump Cap when he had Trucks on the lift. Came in one afternoon and he had a big shaved area on the back of his head with a large band aid on covering. Seems he was working under a truck on the lift with no bump cap dropped a wrench and when he straightened up from picking the wrench up hit his head on the cutting edge of the trucks underbody scraper! Took 10 stitches to close the wound! An accident report was filled out and in it he stated his bump cap fell off and he hit his head when he was putting it back on! I said " Your a pretty good storyteller "!

HudCo, Mine originally belonged to my ex father-in-law who was a petroleum engineer with Imperial Oil (Esso). I inherited it when he passed on and have used it ever since. Not in the oilfield anymore but still wear it around the farm if the job warrants it. |

most hard hats are slick, and usually if anything falls and hits them, that object will usually glance off them saving it from breaking it or your head

Last three I wore working, have a Green Full Brim MSA in the truck I drive but is well out of date and could care less if destroy it. Had my Grandfathers Aluminum one, even the suspension was intact in it, was leather for that back in the day. Went to my older brother so his son can have it when we are all gone.
Tabs on side of Black one were for Hearing Protection muffs or intercom speaker ear covers for working with the control room.

i never had a problem wearing a hard hat on any job site...until...now this was before the cancer choosing a color for the survivors and other hoping to survive. yep i'm talking about pink! you know...PINK! a local company contacted me to remove some items from their building site as construction progressed. i usually always had my own hard hat in my truck, the company said i had to wear one on site when i came. no problem...and i pulled out my hat. they told me no...i would hafta wear a pink hard hat! i told them this dude don't wear pink hard hats! they told me i couldn't be on the property without it! i left, told them to find someone else to do what was needed to be done. about 3 days later i gits a call from the boss man there. and we have this conversation again, he said he'd let me wear my yeller one, as they really needed me to haul the items there. worked for for me!

Most commercial projects I see, safety gear includes hard hats, eye protection, hi vis vest with reflective tape, work boots sometimes steel toed, and hearing protection. OSHA regs. No like, no work. Was in a residential construction project yesterday. 3 guys on ladders swinging hammers, drilling holes with big auger bits, and one with a sawzall cutting off excess top plate under a beam. I never felt so vulnerable before reading this thread.

I work in a processing facility with pipes all over and platforms of various levels. Part of our PPEs are bump caps, basically low grade hard hats without the "suspension" in them, the machine maintenance crew wears true hard hats. The cap has saved my noggin a few times. A number of years ago we were shut down and no production for a tour of corporate officials. No production going on and defined walk zones so no caps (or other PPEs) required. I almost felt naked walking into the production area without my bump cap and safety glasses on.

![]() ![]() The whole thing might be over done in the sports world. But one of the biggest dirt moving contractor in California when I was a kid had pink as his cooperate color. Went on to build a big hotel and restaurant that uses pink as main color. The Madonna Inn, is still going even though he died about 15 years ago. In the original part it is built out rock or painted pink. So Shameless you might be happiest in the Cave Man room all rock all the time.
