i just bought an 84 L3 and would like to build or put on a power fold ladder.
thoughts would be- add the factory setup used if anybody has one.
or
use a couple tiny cyl i have from other sprayers and engineer this to plum into the reel height port for use in corn
does anybody have a used system sitting on a scrap machine?

The newer gleaners used a electric actuator for a ladder raise, two electric wires are a lot easier to run then hydraulic hoses. I think new actuators are around $400-450

I think the factory power fold was one electic actuator. The switch was down by the header height control.

We had a Gleaner R62, and it did not have the ladder lift. I wanted to put one on but never did. The ones I seen used an electric actuator.
I just bought a new seed tender cart and it uses an electric actuator, but it's an electric pump and a small hyd cylinder all self contained unit to raise the auger. I can look at it and get you the brand and model, etc if it's something that intrests you, just send a PM.
I'm sure they are both pretty spendy items. I wonder how a cheap small light duity electric winch would work from an ATV or something with a little fabrication.

My neighbor threw a new one for a dish antenna in the back of my van, I haven't even looked at it, don't know what the voltage is for it. I guess I will have to open the box and have a look at it.

I am with Mack. Those cheapo $50 winches can do a lot. One of our L2s had the manual/cable engage for the unloading auger. The cable broke, I tried to repair it, broke it again. AGCO wanted $96 for the cable. I put a $50 HF winch in its place, and swapped the belt to the other side of the idler, now I goose the button, auger starts, push the other button, it shuts off. Aint exactly factory pretty, but it works.

It would be best to go electric then with the ladder down to make sure that a spacer is under the cylinder so that if someone steps on it it doest break, been seeing that alot on the s77's.

Why don't you just modify the ladder so it doesn't need to be folded up all the time?? You'll soon find out there are times you simply need to get in and out of the cab quickly and often, and there you go....wait for the d#$% ladder to go down and back up.....and then, when the electric motor fails, you spend more $$$$ to keep it working.

The ladder on my R52 is aweful heavy to lift. Wish it had electric lift. What would the modification look like Dr?
I only fold it up when I store the combine because of space issues and because I left the ladder down on my L2 once and hooked it with another piece of equipment

You're taxing my memory, but I think all we did was remove the rubber stops to allow the ladder to swing in closer to the tire. I think we had to trim off some steel in the stop area too. Yes, it makes the climbing angle a little harder, but the ladder sticks waaaaaay out farther than it really needs to be knocking down the next row of corn.

Dad took and cut the ladder on an F we had and welded it back with less of an angle. It made it close to the tire but didn't have to raise it all the time.

I just want my ladder to fold out of the way so I don't ever hook it again like I did on my L2. The L2 ladder must be half the weight of the R52. I can barely lift it on the R52.

This might be EXACTLY why the previous owner of our F2 tapped into the "reel" lift circuit for his/now our ladder lift ???

My 860 cotton stripper (K2 chassis) has a rope on the ladder and a latch up top. Just pull it up, or let it down manually. No motors to fail.

IMO call around to a salvage yard and get the OEM setup. affordable, warm fuzzy feeling of OEM components. :)

The N6 had two switches. One in the cab and a second one under the tin work on the left side.

I used to easily pull up the ladder on the old E. It was light and the L2 is relatively easy too but the R52 is a much heavier ladder and I have a heck of a time to get it lifted. I really only need to lift it when I store it so folding it up from the ground is what I need most. I do have an old satellite dish that I put a new actuator doohicky on just before we quit using it and it looks an awful lot like the pics above but it's been standing out in the elements with trees completely covering it up since 2002. Well....... my need might not outweigh the expense and trouble.

My R62 has 2 switches also. There is 1 in the cab and another by the base of the unloading auger.
