I imagine the hinge and hinge pin are worn, loose or bent.

Did that year not have carrier bearing. The E I have does have a carrier bearing holding up bin auger it appears to be intact but sheet metal that's its bolted to is gone.

On the later ones there was a ? Shaped rod that went through a hole and lifted the tube auger up to help get started on the drive. My 67 has one but my 64 doesn’t.

Are you certain that there's no build up of grain dust in the "hinge" area ? We ran an "A" and a straight "F" with that fool-proof unloading system with none of the issues your having, and sadly, the F was pretty much worn out front to back INCLUDING the 'replacement' engine

No, the E is a pain in the @## compared to other models. And the little hanger was not much help. MACK

You can wash the dirt off the body but you can’t wash the farmer out of the heart and soul

I have a 67 E and it's a little bit of a pain to get the auger swung out and on the drive. Probably because of 50+ years of service...
