We have a 190xt with some steering trouble. We had replaced the hydraulic pump with a reman because it wasn't putting out good pressure, the lift arms would not come up. The tractor was steering ok at that time( it was harder to steer due to the low pressure). Once we put the new hyd pump on the steering wouldn't work. Our thought was that the old steering valve couldn't handle the increased pressure of the new pump. We got a replacement steering valve and are getting the same result. When you try to steer it feels like the steering wheel is fighting against you. We're pretty confident all the lines are hooked up as they were. Has anyone ran into this? Any ideas on a fix?

I had to bleed mine due to opening the system. Have someone turn the wheel to full lock while cracking the hydraulic hose at the steering ram. A few times is all it took to straighten mine out. However I was not having the fighting against itself issue. Mine was more not turning immediately while turning the wheel and making noises.

AC720Man is correct. I had to turn the wheel several times to get the air out. I did jack the front wheels off the ground with the loader to make it easier and did not loosen any lines.

Does all hydraulics work ok now? Will PD pull the tractor? Will lift arms raise? Sounds like pump is not primed.
You said you replaced steering valve. What are you calling steering valve?   MACK

Yes all the other hydraulics work and the tractor pulls fine in both ranges. the assembly at the end of the steering shaft is what I'm calling the steering valve. It has 4 hydraulic lines connected to it with a splined shaft that the shaft from the steering wheel connects to.

I have seen one repairman (the Customer) switch the two steel lines on the rear of the pump. I never thought anyone could do that, but I assure you it has been done.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice. I'll start troubleshooting further. Mack do you know if there are any diadrams or schematics that show which lines go where on that valve body for the steering?

I'm sure the service manual shows how they go. Will be same for 170-220 if you have access to another manual.      MACK

I checked my manual for the 190 and there is not much showing how to connect the lines up. I did look at the actual tractor.
The inlet from the cooler connect on the bottom left side of the tractor.
The outlet connects to the upper left.
The cylinder hoses connect to the right side of the valve. I forgot to check which was which.

I'm sure both cylinder hoses are on right, but not sure which is which on left. I'm sure Joe is right.     MACK
