Why did Allis Chalmers make the PTO shaft in D14/D15 different lengths ???

I would have assumed they were the same length. I know a D-17 pre-series 4 is longer than a D-15. I know the torque housing is different between a D-14 and D-15 but I thought that was only at the side frame attachment area. I've got a D-14 and a D-15 S2 at the farm. I should measure the torque housing length between them.

FYI: I measured several D14 and D15 torque housing lengths.
All are the same length on exterior. Difference must be inside torque housing. |
