There's a myriad of conceptions on how presence or lack of restriction in the cooling system impacts a given engine, and I suspect the results are highly subjective to the application and it's operating conditions, but I will say with certainty, that drastically changing the flow character of coolant through an engine, frequently results in a substantial impact to the way it moves waste heat from one area to another, and frequently, that impact is not beneficial.

I know with certainty, that removing outlet restriction on say.... marine cooling systems, that the raw water pump, and cooling pump rapidly lose the ability to remove waste heat from cylinder heads, because the lack of discharge restriction prevents the pump from pressurizing cooling water enough to prevent boiling in upper hot spots.

I won't say it DOES happen with an Allis, but I'd suggest that since these cooling systems operate at essentially atmospheric pressure, that yanking the thermostat completely is likely to have unwanted result.

But another question perplexes me... what is the advantage of removing the bypass hose? It weighs essentially nothing, and there's no improvement to be had by yanking it...
