I need to know the distance from the rocker shaft to the hole for the lift.

That may be why I have trouble lifting the mower. I built one and the distance is about 12", need to shorten the thing and have more leverage.

Gary,
The mower should have a "C" shaped bracket for the lift chain to attach to.  I don't have the measurements, but here is a picture of one:
