    Posted: 22 Aug 2017 at 7:44pm
I had a chance to pick up some weights thinking I'd put them on my WD45. That's when I noticed there are no mounting holes on my rims. Is a different rim needed or are these not meant for a WD45? I already have two of the front stack weights on it. There is a very steep hill on my road which is a county minimal maintenance road and I can never keep the front end down when grading it. Thanks.

Yup, just like Tracy says.  I was pretty young and dumb when I bought mine.  $10 bucks each and all 6 holes had the "special" bolt nut and washer.  Didn't know how fortunate I was they were sold that way. So, I didn't have to find out how they worked.  When you got the special bolts they really work cool!  Sometimes I think the bolts are more rare than the weights!

I didn't have the special bolts so I modified some carriage bolts to go in the slots.

I used regular bolts on mine. Grind the head down flush with the bolt on one side. You will have to use a big flat washer on the weight. A bolt small enough to go thru the slot is smaller than the hole in the weight. It ain't a perfect fit but it will work.

I used some 1/2" bolts from the hardware store. I ground down the bolt head on one side and it worked perfect. I cannot remember how long the bolts are.

You can still buy the square offset head bolts I think, could a few years ago anyway.
Use a square head bolt and cut off one side is about the same.

A carriage bolt might hold them. The real bolt head is offset , longer on one side to catch the rim correctly. the head size pushes bolt to true center of hole. A carrige bolt won't do that, without building up the head and machining it. HTH Tracy

Agreed that I've never seen those bolts sold.  They were an A-C special for this purpose only.  Only ones I've seen were "hand made" as most people here state.  If an industrial company makes them, it would be interesting to see them next to the "A-C special bolt".  The originals sure do work slick on those A-C rims....
