Sure wish the young ones could have learned to work smarter and not harder and not think they were indestructible... Like 40-50- 60 years ago... Ermm  they might not be hurtin so bad these days.  LOL But try and teach the young tuff nuts that are now thinking the same the old men thought way back when, that ain't happening, then you have the pussyfied ones that prolly live a long time from not over stressin their lill delicat hands.

DJ, I don't know what the buck is happening, but I tried many different links that were suppose to go back to Dr. Christopher but finally had to start fresh looking for his links.
Here is Dr. Christopher's site... You can look around on there for other stuff too.

Here is his salve - Complete Tissue & Bone Formula 4 oz ointment

Hey TimCNY  and all, I ordered and tried the Dr. Christophers cream and its working good for me. I am able to skip my afternoon Tramadol, still take the Tramadol in the AM.
The cream is a bit greasy all day long and has a light smell that reminds me of an alfalfa pill. leaves a greenish tinge on my T shirt.

Really not sure how you guys suck it up and keep going. I had a blown disc between L4 and L5. Bulged out and was impacting my sciatic nerve. Entire left leg was not good. Standing was really the only relief. Tried the Chiropractor, made it worse. Then to therapy, made it worse. then to shots, nothing there. Could only sleep about 15-20 minutes on a stack of six pillows or crammed between the bed and a dresser. Could not shake it. tried the drugs no real effect. I just wanted to get some sleep! Finally got recommended to a good back doctor in Pittsburgh. Kids took me down in the back seat of the car. I was very fortunate that was all that was wrong, they sniped out the problem, and I try to be careful of what I lift now.
I can relate a little, hoping you guys keep on keeping on!

 Chris

Cortesone, a steroid, will do much more harm than good in the long run. Sure first needle..ahhh.. this is great no pain. Then it wears off, 2nd one, ahh, that's better but doesn't last as long. After 4-5-6 you almost need it daily, to MASK the pain AND it does ZERO for the cause of the pain.
It actually will attack the body, several sites to read about that, making things worse in the end.
Kinda like turning up the car radio as the exhaust system rots out.....
I refuse to 'take the needle'. L3-4-5 are kinda shot, so Itry to stay limber, see chiro every 2 months, eat a little better...but NO drugs, NO pain maskers. When it hurts I STOP what I'm doing, give the old body time to rest and recupurate.

I've been going to a chiropractor for 7 years for degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis.  We'll all get degenerative disc disease if we live long enough.  The chiropractor was successful in relieving pain in my neck and shoulders.  My MD recommended "Aleve" because it has Naproxen in it.  That's more powerful than ibuprofen.  When arthritis began to effect my hands my MD prescribed "Meloxicam" which was very effective with my hands and helps my back, shoulders, and neck, too.  Can't take Meloxicam with over the counter naproxen or ibuprofen. Ice packs help, too.  I bought some gel packs from my chiropractor and keep them in the refrigerator.  I also bought a back belt from my chiropractor which helps when I'm lifting or driving a long distance. Stretching exercises also help.  Spinal stenosis is arthritic changes to the spine.  Almost a year ago I started experiencing severe back pain.  Chiropractic was ineffective.  After my insurance company insisted on an x-ray of my back (which my MD said was useless), and a minimum of 12 sessions with a physical therapist or chiropractor, all out of pocket, the insurance company finally approved an MRI.  Then began the search for a competent orthopedic surgeon who wanted to treat a patient with diabetes.  I found Dr. Herbert Biel at BJC (Barnes, Jewish, Childrens) Illinois Medical Group in Belleville, IL.  While being coached through a review of my MRI, I could see what the problem is in my lower back.  L2, L3, L4, and L5 are full of arthritis build up and the arthritis is squeezing my spinal cord nerves, thus the lower back pain.  The solution is to have surgery and have those vertebrae cleaned out so there's no pressure on the spinal cord nerves.  However the insurance company insisted on steroid injections to help ease the pain.  The 1st set of injections were amazing.  I felt significant relief within a few hours.  Then the benefits started to wear off.  I've had the 2nd and 3rd injections since.  Never did get back to where I was right after the 1st injections.  But I'm better than I was before the injections.  At the end of December I was having stabbing pain down both legs almost to the point of making me quit what I was doing.  Now I have pain that is manageable and tolerable.  Stretching exercises and ice packs help a lot and the Meloxicam is helping.  The surgeon agrees with my regular MD that I should keep using the Meloxicam.  I go on Medicare April 1 which may put surgery back on the table.  (I also have Scheuermann's Disease which is a whole separate chapter.)  Hope there's some info. in this bio that helps!

Man O Man I hear ya!! Broken back(Dislocated) in 1977, dealt with opioids for a nearly a year when my own body built resistance to them and quit them. Have had incidents since and none fun where essentially compressed c4/5-c6/7, a few in the Thoracic region are damaged but standing tall, low back is a mess and I work thru a lot of stiff days, sore days, have learned my limits and try to stick to them. Mid sixties now, loads of Arthritis, hands, knees, back and shoulders from wrenching FOREVER, doing tough work no help, and am just about to that end where I have to slow a LOT or just give up the heavy work.

As the saying goes, I worked like a Hebrew slave since I was 13. I’m 61 now. I had a couple accidents that damaged neck and low back. Then in 1999 broke my neck in a fall. In 2005 destroyed my neck from C-2 thru T-1 inclusive with 100% compression of all L & S levels. Neck doesn’t turn, twist or tilt. I drink through a straw always. I pushed the low back pain in my little box and trudged on. I woke up July 5th 2010 and couldn’t move or feel my legs. I had been raking hay every day for the preceding 3 days. After emergency surgery I have cauda equina syndrome , a big fancy word for little or no bowel or bladder control. Now I’m disabled have a hard time walking because of messed up balance which will never return. I used to be a mans man with 18.75 inch biceps from hard work. I never lifted any weight until rehab. Now it’s 10-15 pound lol. Be careful. Listen to your doctor. Just because you can push through the pain like I did. Do you Really want to be afraid to go anywhere never knowing when your bowels or bladder will let loose. I know all about depends. But the looks you get in a restaurant or in line, insert store name, when your bowels move. Then the clean up after getting home while sitting in your mess. Not a future I’d wish on anyone. Be careful they can’t fix messed up too bad. Keith

sometimes the pharmacies put them behind their counters, sometimes they are out on shelves. there are larger sizes that Joe talks above. but I too use the 2x3 inch ones. just stick them on where it hurts. I have even wrapped them around my fingers at work when they would hurt from typing a lot.

L4 been my problem for many years. Also, like Joe, I have Arthritis in my shoulder, but its the right side, and of coarse I'm right handed. Pretty tough tryin' to work under a dash wiring or working overhead without a lot of pain. I don't know which is worst sometime, my back givin' me Hell or my shoulder. Sucks gettin' old. I do some Aleve' once in a while, but I don't like takin' pills either. A hot marathon shower concentrating on those two area's helps sometimes for me. Retirement from the Heavy Equip job that I do everyday is getting close. Actually, it can't come quick enough!! Building wiring systems is much easier on the body...  LOL!

Cortical Steroids will work awhile, just caution as they do wear off and they promote degradation of a already damaged joint. I had two spinal block attempts for pain management, failed, had CS injections three times and only made it madder. Not all get as far or as severe where most can manage day to day with stretch exercises and relaxation techniques, a old fashioned steam bath and a trip into the Rockies where found the Hot Springs was wonderful for myself.

I "Think" I've told ya'll bout my left shoulder issues,,,,Lord knows ,,I've got enough ailments botherin me,,,,,Wink
Anyway,,I finally got an appointment with our new PCP and he tells me I have a "Pretty good amount of Arthritis" in the shoulder,,,,. He had agreed to give me a Corto-steroid shot in the shoulder as lond as I checked my sugar several times during the day for bout 4 days as the shot was going to raise my blood sugar quite a bit,,,,,Chit,,I told him I was to the point that I would agree to just bout anything cause most of the time my left hand was pretty much useless and just hung around me with no strength,,,,,
I'll swear thet friggin needle was over 4" long and the tube of medicine was just as long and thick,,!! Dang,,when he hit the nerve or whatever,,it made the arm jump and I met it going up,,,,WHOOoeeeeeee ,,,Chit,,but did that hurt,,,he asked me ,,did I want him to stop? I told him Go, Go, chit the needle was already in me just as well finish up. It has taken 3 days for most of the pain that has been there for so friggin long,,but yesterday was first time in a long time i could raise my arm out away from my body with it hurtin  so bad,,,,ClapClap
My blood sugar shot up to over 400 for 2-3 days and am glad I had that little machine to let me know how high it was,, My hand feels so dang good altho the shoulder lets me know it is still there but don't have that constant pain. I even got to where I can skip the CBD and the hydrocodons,,,to an every other day or so,ClapClap The Dr told me I should be able to get that shot bout every 5-6 months,,,,ClapClap

I also have degeneration and arthritis in my lower back. I've had it since high school. I saw bunches of back crackers and docs, do have a prescription for hydrocodone but only use it when it's unbearable, also have the muscle relaxants that is needed when I stiffen up when the sharp pains come from the back. I don't take them either unless really really bad. last 3 specialists I've been to all read the early x-rays and ones ordered by them, all 3 told me that surgery would only pad their pockets and wouldn't do me any good as i'm still up and walking. if I selected the surgery I have to make the decision of being in a sitting position or a standing one. sitting means a wheel chair and standing...well thinking about it, I don't think I could poop without making a heck ova mess! and i'd hafta have a pulley system or some kind of a lift to get up outta and inta bed, plus i'd hafta cut the roof off my vehicles to drive them! I had one of them shots put into/around my lower spine, that helped a lot but only lasted about 6 months, and if you did anything strenuous you could still feel the pain. I can't walk to far before I have to find a place to land and sit awhile, then i'm off going again. lived with it most of my life, will prolly live with it the rest of my life. good luck on yours, I hope something/someone can help you out!

BIL has had surgery and all, but he still says the only thing that helps is his inversion table.  I'm gonna look for one of them and see if it helps mine.  I've got arthritis BAD in the back and even worse in my neck.  I'll be praying for you Buddy.

I have degenerating spinal disease too,--- had it most of my life and 4 surgerys later still suffer. They removed as much of the bottom disks as they could. just moving around hurts, bending over is out.
Gardening is done laying on creepers, and working under equipment is totally out now unless its upside down.
Neck is fused now so I can't turn my head to look behind me. I tell everybody to never get behind the equipment when I am driving it.
Never found any pain killers that worked, so I dont take anything.
The arthritis is all thru my body as is this prostate cancer that has spread because they didn't get all of it out.
Bad health is taking a toll on us old guys! Everybody hang in there and keep plugging away! ----- Beats the alternative!

I have three compressed disc in my lower lumbar (one was fractured) from a parachuting accident.  Stretching, and on a regular basis before it starts hurting, has worked well for me.  Also looking to get an inversion table.....I also like to grab the top of a door jam and kind of hang a little (6'5" so that takes some creativity) but it all tends to help.  Also find laying as flat as possible on a good firm mattress or hard surface (carpeted floor) for 20-30 minutes helps......and when the wife finds me asleep I just tell her my back was hurtin and just needed some attention....must have drifted off.
I also have several different medications, but seldom use, to help with pain or muscle relaxation.
good luck
