What one do you think is better? Which one has more bang for what it is?
Which one is more of a all around tractor?

They were designed for diffferent size farms so you're comparing apples and oranges, as far as which is better. I like the 45 better, but the CA makes a better lawn mower and might be better for plowing small gardens plots. From what I've seen a nice CA can bring about as much as an average 45. So that would make a 45 a better value but give the CA better resale. I still prefer a 45.

What are you going to use if for??? For some things, a 16 oz hammer is the right tool, for other things a 5 lb sledge hammer is better.

After reading the responses I have a new response. You first need to nail down the intended use and then that will determine which is better for you. One could very easily farm 10-20acres or more with a CA and 2 row implements. Outside of basic jobs for me the WD45 is too small so I have opted for a larger much newer utility tractor that can handle a loader real well and was designed to have one on it and then use the CA for basic stuff it was designed for. So I wouldn't have either for a utility tractor but either would be OK if you keep them inside of their comfort zone.

Get a 45. Can do all the light work and pull a 3 bottom plow and plus it is arguably the most famous tractor Allis ever built. yep 45. But then it's fun to rake with a tractor like a CA.

Check out the CA I have in the Classifieds section. I'm a few hours from you. CA's are a pretty healthy little unit to have.

Raking hay, plowing the garden, mowing the yard, or cultivating with a 2 row front mount, the CA would be great. If you want to plow snow, scoop dirt, bush hog the waterways, plow some bigger patches, or anything where you might need to slip the hand clutch, the 45 is the tool for ya. Also if you want a loader for small odd jobs, the W9 can be had for half what a W8 would for the CA. I think you can buy a 45 in good mechanical shape cheaper than most CA's so you have more bang for your buck with the 45. Buy a 45, you won't be sorry.

my vote is a WD or WD45. With an aftermarket 3 point hitch they can fill in for some of your more modern tractors. In my opinion CA is gonna be hard pressed to find a place on a modern farm. You can find things to do, but 90% of the equipment today is larger and heavier than the tractor so just towing the implement could be "unsafe" or break something on the tractor. The CA live pto seems less robust than the WD system, and if I recall parts aren't as easy to get as the WD clutch. If you are used to an independent pto of the more modern stuff and you like the modern hydraulics, forget both tractors! And if you need nice ergonomic and easy mounting platforms (joint/back problems), forget both tractors! If you want an older AC but want more modern operators station and modern hydraulics, look at the 170/180/190 models. D-series with factory 3 points and low pressure hydraulics would also be more modern in my mind.

WD45 easier to get on an off plus the oil run hand clutch makes this tractor very easy for young people to operate. Our 3 children all started to drive a WD45 before any other tractor on the farm.

WKpoor is off, WD-45 is a perfect size tractor. Plenty of power and agile. A great utility tractor and overall great value for your money. CA is just too light and doesn't have a lot of nicer amentities that the WD-45 has. And finally the CA is a pain in the behind to get on and off of easily.

This one is very easy. I love to use my "CA" for everything I do. It is small in size but has the HP to get the job done and also has the same hydrualic system as the "WD-45". The "CA" can use some of the snap-coupler equipment made for the "WD" & "WD-45" so some equipment is easy to find. How ever equipment made just for the "CA" gets harder to find.
Heres why I say it's easy. The "WD-45" weights more, has more HP, easier to find equipment & cost is about the same.
I vote for the "WD-45"

Thanks & God Bless

WD 45 all the way. Kind of a biased opinion, having never owned just ocasionally run the neighbors CA. But I can tell ya, I love mine. Will love it even more after the hometown pull on friday nite... lol.

Corn and soybeans and a little hay is what we farm. The reason really is just to own a allis tractor myself like Dave said. I don't really consider the D series because most all of them are out of my price range. And it looks like the WD45 is the way to go! |

Another thought is that I have a Farmall Mta with a 3 point and a wd45 is about the same hp and with a 3 point adapter for the 45 I can use the same implements.

The CA is a nice little tractor, but I would go with a WD or WD45. More power, more things you can do. I plow my garden every year with my WD and Model 53 plow. One thing my WD does not do well is moving big bales of hay. I have a 3 point bale carrier, and while my tractor has plenty of power (I think it has a 45 crank) it is too light. The front end will come up and then you are steering with the brakes, until the bale drags off the rear. Not the tractors fault, big bales weren't around when the WD or 45 were designed.

I have both and if I needed to get rid of one it would be the CA. A WD45 is notmuch bigger but alot more power. handles 3 pt eguipment better. the PTO on A CA is so far off the ground that coman equiopment dosen't wook to well. The CA is better for mowing . thats because I have a woods Belly mower on it. The Hand clutch on the CA is usless compaired to a WD. and WD45s can be had for half the price of a CA.

A 3 pt adapter may be fine for most things, but most don't activate the traction boost system, so plowing with the 3 point , you would be at a disadvantage on the WD45. If you use a Snap couple plow and switch to a 3 point, you will quickly learn the advantages of the SC traction boost system.
