They are out there but are very speedy! Like $1500. If I had one I don't know if I would keep it for the cool or sell it for the easy cash?

I have seen them go far North of that number. A good friend of mine has a gold demonstrator that he would love to find one for it.

They hold more oil and look COOL !! M & W made turbocharger kits for 4010/20's and 806/856's and they recommended this aluminum oil pan to keep the engine oil cooler as it had cooling fins made into its sides and held another gallon or more of oil.

Here’s a link to a 2022 posting on the red power forum about it. Posting includes a few photos of it & their realized auction prices then.
Here are a few photos of a JD4020 M&W oil pan. Checkout how it is dimpled on the inside. ![]() Edited by AC7060IL - 30 Dec 2024 at 2:42pm |

That does look cool! I wonder how much it really does to keep the oil cooler. If those fins work, it seems like they could have been formed into the sheet metal pans too.

Copper beats aluminum for fluid heat dispersion. Hence, the better radiators usually contain copper cores. But the economics usually favor aluminum which disperses fluid heat far more quicker than most mild steel or cast metals.
M&W’s aluminum oil pan was an economical cooling option for most fueled-up 1960s turbocharged diesel tractors. None of which probably contained intercooler/larger radiator that helped confront their inherent excess heat created by turbocharger’s intake air compressor turbine coupled with increased fueling. AC did a good job offering various higher hp diesel engines equipped with piston cooling, oil coolers, & intercooler systems. |

What???? No baffles?? I guess it would be hard to make cast ones, could bolt some thin steel ones in.

Kinda ironic but over on Pull Off .com a guy just yesterday offered to recast the pans, possibly other makes.

It probably helped. Back in the day my dad had a 4230 that a previous owner had installed an M&W Turbo kit on but they didn't install the aluminum oil pan. I guess they figured that since the oil pan on the 4430 with a factory turbo was the same size they didn't need it, but the radiator on that 4230 was so small that on a hot day the heat gauge would creep over to the edge of the red pulling a four bottom plow that we used to pull with a 3020 before we got it.
