I'm looking to trade an LS M125. Just not real happy with the LS. Had several smaller issues and I'm just kinda tired of it. Looked at Kubota and they're very expensive. So now I'm looking at the Massey 1725 and just wandering if anybody has experience with them. My biggest question is the Iseki engine. I've never had any experience with them. The LS has a Yanmar, which was a big selling point. Never had any trouble with the engine. Mostly it's the mower deck and the deck lift mechanisms that I'm unhappy with. Any thoughts on the Massey? Is it made by Massey or by someone else with red plastic?

I have a 2011 Massey Ferguson GC2400 with the (3 cylinder) Iseki engine. I also have a 60" deck and last year I bought a front mount snowblower. (I had a 3 point hitch blower before that). It gets used for a lot of things that I should be using a lot bigger tractor to do.
As far as I know, Massey Ferguson does make their smaller tractors.
I have about 850 hours on it. In the 12 years I have had it, I have had very few problems.
The weld on the drive shaft (from the engine to the hydraulic pump) broke on one yoke. I aligned it as straight as possible and rewelded it. No problem since.
I had to replace the glow plugs a few years ago, but I am thinking that was my fault. The battery was weak and I was using the booster/charger in cold weather while using the blow plugs. A new battery and new glow plugs and no more problems.
I would buy definitely another Massey Ferguson again!

I looked at the MF 26hp compact but I could not get a belly mower for it. Went to Mahindra dealer and bought their 26 hp compact 4WD. 60” belly mower, loader, backhoe. Very pleased and very little plastic parts. Hood, fenders are all metal. Mitsubishi diesel. I think they have a 7 year warranty now, mine was 5years.

I have a friend that has an older Kubota and another that has a brand new Mahindra. I don't like either of their pedals (to go forward or backward).
I really like the Massey Ferguson side by side pedals. They are much are natural and comfortable. It doesn't sound like much, but when you are on the tractor for 4-5 hours mowing every week, it makes a difference!

When I bought my GC2400 in 2011, the tractor/loader was $9999. The 60" deck was $1600. I got them to change to ag (bar type) tires and throw in an and install an engine heater for $10,600.
At the same time, our local dealer quoted me $17,300 for a comparable John Deere and the Kubota dealer was $15,500.
The Kubota dealer told me he couldn't come close to the Massey Ferguson price and he said not to be afraid of the Massey. He also said that he didn't like to knock anyone's product, but advised me to stay clear of the New Holland.

Bought ours 2yrs ago. Has 169 hrs. On it when I put it in the shed this evening. Wife runs it most of the time and loves it. Like WF said,I liked the 2 pedal over the 1 pedal. Has a metal hood and fenders and it’s nice to operate. You won’t be disappointed. If you do get one , move the rear warning lights to the inside of the roll bar.

Cwhit, that sounds like the "toolbox" on our LS. Little plastic toolbox mounted on the outside of the ROPS. My brother and Mama's mailbox quickly took care of that though. Think it lasted about 3 or 4 hours

I moved my rear lights, too. If you get close to trees, limbs or anything, there is very little protection from breaking them and they are very expensive !!! Mine have been glued back together.
Another tip if you buy a mower deck is to grease the wheels often. They are $130 x four for a new set!

There will definitely have to be a mower deck. That's what we use and my mama uses. The deck is the downfall to the LS. The spindle bearings aren't sealed so when you grease them you push all the grass and dirt into the bearings. They don't last long when that happens

I know it's bad luck to say this, but I have had zero spindle problems with my 60" deck.
We have acquired more yard over the years, plus I now mow two vacant lots adjacent to me, so I am up to almost 5 acres that I mow weekly. Other than blades and a lot of grease, I have done nothing to my deck. The front (caster) wheel in the middle is pretty well worn and I will replace it at the end of the year, but no other problems.
Blades are only available from the dealer and very heavy. They are quite expensive at about $110/ set, but I get two full years out of a set. |
