There's a post on a different forum about a 7200 DEERE Vac planter that's available to him (no row spacing/# of rows on the unit was divulged in the post). Was this a "common" scenario for platers in that era ??

Kinze always used to have 8 and 12 row manual fold planters (2200 Econo-fold) and also offered a kit for them to be hydraulic fold, so either way. I imagine Deere had a similar product to compete with.

White had the right idea, with the vertical fold pull-type planters.

Who says I will pounce on it? It peaked my interest initially but…….. not sure how the 8030 will handle a vac planter. Yes it solves my transport width issue but. I HATE the scream of vac planters. Price is reasonable. I’m cheap by nature and have to fight that tendency BUT I’ve learned sometimes it pays to spend a bit more and get something I’m happy with 5-10 years down the road. When I bought my first articulated tractor I took the cheap route I hated that thing with a passion lost my butt and sold it bought what originally wanted and happy as a lark. Just like my no till drill spared no expense yes it misses an option I wanted but I’m happy with it. Might be better to have few tense moments getting it to far fields this year and buy the Kinze I want. By rotation after this year I’ll have two years to find and save a few bucks for what I want.

I just don't think it's that great of an idea. It doesn't clear away as well as front fold, plus everything gets very tall, and obviously limited on how wide of a planter the concept works on. For me, and many around here, you have some narrow side roads and such to get to fields, and you'd be dodging low hanging trees more so than usual. Then, I picture the bouncing/ jostling during transport of the row units in a direction other than field position. It's just my personal opinion, just not that big a fan of the concept.

But, you have to remember the times, back when these came out, if you wanted a pull type planter, it was either a Donahue trailer, the IH endwise transport, the John Deere front fold, which was rather expensive, or the White vertical fold. We had two of the vertical folds, and got along with them. Then when we went to 16 row, front fold was the only option.

7000’s offered wing fold at least in later forms it’s the cat’s meow. We run a 1760 in corn and that is slick. Seems like vertical fold would be top heavy. |

I have an old Deere with the Wetherell (sp?) endwise transport hitch. I hate it! Friggin' cumbersome fussy time wasting pile of. . . .If I'm by myself, if I park on a perfect spot in the field, and if everything goes in perfect harmony, it's 15 minutes and several trips in and out of the tractor before I'm planting. I'd rather have a White vertical fold than it! Next planter will be a front fold.
