No WD-45 Tractors would have a Tractor Serial Number like you list. WD-45 Serial numbers continued on from WD Serials. The first WD-45 Serial was WD146607, continued all the way up to around WD236958. Did you get this number from the rear of the tractor. see attached Link G http://wsmth.people.clemson.edu/SNLocat/ACSN4.htm |

Sounds like you need to work on that serial number a little more.....try a stiff wire brush and some lacquer thinner or BrakeKleen. Gotta get that old paint out of the impression in order to read it..

Does it have a curved gear shift? Is there a plate on the right side of the engine from front to back? What are you basing that it's a 45 on?

It does have a curved shifter and it doesnt have the plate. New to here and someone said there may be the number in a different place. I did get the number I listed off the rear left side. Thanks to you all, I'll get my wire brush out again and work on that . I do have some books for attachments by allis if any one is interested. Thanks again

Numbers are pretty faint. Hope someone has not sanded them off. I had a pic of mine on here but can’t remember what post it was with. You should be able to find a WD and then six digits.

There you go. That is 175421. You have to look hard and have a good light. Get a magnifying glass or your grandkids to have look. If you want to use sandpaper stick to 320 or 400 grit or you will have no serial!

No luck yet, cleaned the area with a brass wire wheel and the wd63 36 show up real well. Im going to figure out how to post a picture but I don't think it will help. The numbers and letters are very vivid. I appreciate you asking though. Thanks a lot!

I just looked out of curiosity. The Serial Numbers for the 45 were: Year Beginning number 1953 146607 1954 160386 1955 190993 1956 217992 1957 230295 Ending Serial Number 230298 If your S/N starts with 6 then it ain't a 45. It could be a 49, 50 or 51 WD.

I just received the operating instructions and repair parts illustrations manual for the model wd tractor. the example of where the serial number is located and has a example of the number being wd-4004 Being only 4 numbers, does this make any sense?

The "WD" series officially began at serial number 7. The first 6 tractors were prototypes. When they got to 127,007 they changed the transmission gears/shafts and used a curved gearshift lever. This new constant mesh, helical gear transmission was used in WD's from 127,007 on and all WD-45's from 146,607 to the end. So, if the serial number on the rear end housing is lower than 127,007 it will have a straight gearshift in it with a screw on knob. The only way it could have a curved shift lever is if someone used a torch and bent it, because a legit WD-series curved shift lever CANNOT work in the old transmission. It doesn't fit. It also has a rubber knob that slips on the end, not a screw on knob.

The 'Operators Inst. and Parts Illust.' for WD-45 is basically a revision to the WD Manual. You will notice that a lot of the pictures are the Original WD. G |

I posted earlier it had a curved shifter and I apologize for that. It is straight. The knob is broke off in half. I can see the very top of the shifter but not sure if it is threaded. The knob is not rubber almost seems like a hard plastic. Thank you all!

Thanks for the replies! I have watched the video, and it doesn't have the plate. Would this number be earlier then a 1953?

ALL WD engines had a side plate on the right side of the engine block. ALL WD-45's did NOT. Now, if yours is a WD chassis, it either had a new block (WD45 block) installed one time or a complete WD45 engine. There was a time in the past where you could not buy a WC/WD block (discontinued) and could only replace it with a WD45 block.
