What do you mean by 'a little on the bad side'? Pretty good little tractors if they are operating OK. 6 speed isn't as nice as the 8 speed in the late 5040 and 5050.5040 is about the same tractor as the Long 445 and the Oliver 1265.

Tough little 40hp tractor. PS is one-finger. Yes, the 6-speed is bit cumbersome to shift, because the lever end and gates are sloppily made. But, having the upper 2 gears synchronized helps offset that a little. Front end is made heavy. Handles a loader well with factory live pump that's mounted above the PTO. 2-stage clutch. 3-pt is made well too. If the composite (?) front grill is damaged, you'll play heck trying to find a good replacement. If you're good at fiberglass, maybe not a problem. Agree with Doug, $2500....... depending on condition of course. Edited by Gatz in NE - 03 Sep 2019 at 8:57pm |

Got one up here on CL that fits the description. Wants $4000 for it and has a few minor fixums. It is the one with more gears.

If it goes, whoas , everything works and the sheet metal doesn't wave at you going down the road $2500.00 is fair. Pretty handy little tractors.
Check out the shifting carefully. They do get sloppy. You gave to split it to change the forks.
