I'm unsure of the compression but 200 may be about right. 14:1 is the ratio.
You may want to check your energy cells also. They can get full of carbon and cause loss of power and smoke also. |

Are you sure 200 is right? I'd swear Dean Byerly told me he was helping someone with a 262 that wouldn't start, the compression was 280 psi, and that wasn't enough. I don't know for sure on a 262, but a Powerstroke won't light off at 200 psi.

Depends alot on cranking speed. AC service always said to pull one injector at a time and check comp. with tractor running. Alot of extra work. I pull all and check with a good battery charger on batterys. MACK

You know, sometimes you just simply don't need to know some information. If it ran well enough before, what difference does it make????? there isn't anything you can do about compression numbers without an overhaul/valve job anyway.

Valve problems typically don't show up on all cylinders. If it needs rings, you'd expect to see blow-by from the breather when it is running.

But since he is already working on it it doesn't hurt to do some tests to see what condition the engine is in and if a rebuild might be coming soon. Sometimes a little advanced notice is needed to start saving some money for a big job in the near future. |
