Just got a 1964 I-40 Allis Chalmers tractor and I have lost the outer bearing on the axel shaft and I can’t find the s/n for the machine and I have now clue what bearing I need. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Ii think the I40 should be the same rear end as a D12 (?) ..... here are the part numbers, you might compare the SIZE.

Kevin, i was hoping someone with some better info would jump in here and answer.. I dont see these two ALLIS part numbers being cross referenced to a Name Brand Bearing anywhere on GOOGLE.... Do you have an ID or an OD for the bearing... or is there a number etched on the races ? ... If your going to an ALLIS Dealer, thats different.

Steve,
I found the bearing I needed. I was able to pull it off the axel and get numbers off of it. So I’m a week I should have this up and running again. Thanks for the response. |

You didn’t mention replacing the seal, perfect time to replace it. Are you replacing the axle bearing or pinion shaft bearing?

Steve,
So I put the new outer pinion bearing on and drove for about 5 minutes and totally destroyed the new bearing. Pulled the outer inspection cap off and flashed a flashlight into the axel housing and I think the inner bearing is gone. My nightmare came true and now I’m going have to pull the whole axel housing off the tractor. Fun |
