I've never used a 190 and a friend traded for one and the PTO lever is stuck apparently. What does the lever on the side of the console do? It is a 1970 model Ser #28233.

if the lever is on the right side mounted on console. Would be hydraulic controlled pto. Try checking oil level to start. If hyd pto it will have hyd lines going to pto housing under tractor.

The lever has 3 positions.
All the way up engages PTO Middle (lever is about level) is neutral Lever down is off with PTO brake engaged When disengaging PTO always let it come to a complete stop before going to the "Brake" position. Pushing in on foot clutch will make it come to complete stop sooner.

It has a rod sticking up through the floor board to the left of the trans case that should pull up and down. it is stuck. What is that for?And just for the record, the foot clutch kills the PTO like the smaller tractors, right?

Yes the foot clutch kills the pto no matter if it’s mechanical or hydraulic pto. It’s hydraulic if is on the console. 3 positions, pushed down its off and brake is applied, midway is off and in neutral so to speak, fully up is engaged. When pto is engaged always move to midway to shut pto off. Only move to full down after the pto is completely stopped to engage the brake.

The push/pull lever to the left and at the platform shouldn't be there if it has a hydraulic PTO. So, if it is there it needs to be pulled up I'd say 6 or 8 inches to engage the sliding coupler. You'll have to mate the splines, so it may not pull up with the engine off and nothing turning. Yes. Foot clutch still kills the PTO rotation.

Ive bought and sold a few 190,s - wasnt there some that had the pto engage on the left by a movement of the lever to the front to engage it ?

I've got one more question. On a XT Diesel does the serial number supposed to end with XTD or DXT. I have another friend that has one with DXT but I don't think that is right.

Doug is right too, I've got one of each on the farm right now. One you pull a knob up to engage and it's just above the floor when disengaged, the other you shove the lever forward to engage and pull back to disengage. Have your foot on the clutch when moving either type either direction.

XTD is a diesel XT. Has nothing to do with PTO type. A hydraulic pto doesn’t have a floor engagement lever. And a mechanical doesn’t have a console controls pto lever period. Hydraulic pto was a option.

The detent balls for the side lever need some lube have seen handles broke off and welded on because they moved so hard.

I would be surprised a series III would be mechanical. I would have thought it would be hydraulic as standard equipment in that time period but I could be wrong.

Hyd. PTO was optional on XT series 3 and even on the 200.
