Is it a simple job to put a D19 gas into a series 4 that had a bad motor. Sorry if its been asked before. Old guy has a D19 with bad rear end or tranny he doesn't know which. Good motor. Will it bolt into his D17? They are both complete units. D17 tossed a rod thru the block got into the water jacket. I get to look at it next week if he feels good.

It has been done, but the sheet metal won't fit, IIRR. I don't envy you in this job...

Your title says 17 diesel...of so I don't see the challenge. Gasser would be different story.

Wondering about it. I know my Diesel 17 was longer than the gas units. Was hoping it would be a simple bolt up. The D19 tin is good, rad is good. Could all tin be switched,?

I'm thinking direct bolt in. May have to use clutch and flywheel from 17 but it should bolt to crank ok. PM the Dr. He will know. The engines are same physical dementions.
19 is wider I think so tin will not swap. Edited by SteveM C/IL - 07 Oct 2020 at 11:46am |
