Very nice tractor !!!, i do luv the One Eighty,s ; the gear jumping is inconvienent but its very common with One Hundred series tractors , sometimes you can take the shifter cover off and weld up the shifter forks if they are wore , Agco has an updated shifter fork for 185,s that are better , but the problem prolly is in the tranny gears and will need to be tore down , alot of labor but the gears if bought through A+I are resonable ; could be sloppy bearings on the tranny shafts too , you have to go thru the rear end to get to the tranny gears and thats why theres so much labor involved , theres some fellas around up there that do this on the side , maybe they can fix you up

Install the very latest model 185 3rd/4th shift rail and fork into the shift cover.

Dave:
Nice looking unit. Please let us know what you do to solve the problem. My 180 has the same issue, but not much of a problem for me as it is just a "big boy toy". (only have an acre)

The only 180 that I have ever driven did this as well. I held the shift lever when driving down the road.

Listen to the DR's orders, put the late model 185 shift fork and rail, plus put the small size spring from a D17 power director inside the detent spring for a little more holding power. It worked on my 200!!!! Andy

There are 3 ways to do job GOOD, FAST, CHEAP. YOU MAY CHOOSE 2. If its FAST & CHEAP it won't be GOOD, if it's GOOD & CHEAP it won't be FAST, and if its GOOD & FAST it won't be CHEAP!!!!

Nice looking tractor, fixing the tranny does require a fair amount of work but it is best to check everything out while you are in there. There was a combination of things that caused my 190 to jump out of 4th, but happy it is fixed now.
The seat you have there is not stock, I believe there are 2 types: one from a late D series, or a 3 piece unit from an early 190 with wrap around arm rests.

The seat looks like a K&M. They have just the cushions available to fix the seat.

I'd suggest doing what the Dr. has suggested first also. Do the easy and cheaper stuff first and if it solves the problem good, if not then you can go the harder more expensive route.
