On Combine Forum, they are discussing a rumor that CNH is going to do like Agco and retire the Case IH name and color and just sell blue.
Has anybody heard of anything like this?

I agree, it doesn't sound realistic. You never know for sure though. |

Sounds stupid to me--------but then CNH is owned by Fiat. They (like the Germans) never understood the American market.

Seems New Holland (aka - Fiat) bought Ford, New Holland, Case, Fiat-Allis and Kobelco all the while in also buying IH farm tractors and rolling them into a world wide company in the construction industry as well as farm equipment.
The CNH brands Case, New Holland and Kobelco provide a full, high-specification range of heavy construction and light industrial equipment. Direct clients and contractors will find all the machines for their needs from major construction operations in infrastructures, quarrying, demolition, excavation, to city-center maintenance operations, all backed by unsurpassed financing opportunities and service.
Continuing investment provides constant quality and product improvements will meet the expected growth in construction spending over the next few years, while our reach into emerging markets will extend CNH's global presence, focusing on customers' needs wherever they are based and wherever they operate. |

Kgood, usually I would agree with your comment, but in the case of Fiat I would say you were wwrong. I was involved with New Holland when they bought it from Ford, and they poured alot of money and research into the brand that Ford had neglected. THey brought to life the Genesis, which was top notch, far better than anything on the market at that time, the gemini, which too was world class, they rebuilt the skid steers, back hoes, combines, Versatiles etc etc and made them all some of the very best machinery. They also poured alot of Cash into the CaseIH brand and saved it from the brink of being gone forever. CaseIH was on its last leg finacially, there were no buyers, and no more money when Fiat through New Holland na came in and bought them, which saved there a**. Now they swooped in to save Chrysler from the same fate, since control was given to Fiat, and there 53.8% ownership chrysler is back on track to profit, and usually once Fiat takes it, they keep it forever. Fiat is a HUGE co, you can buy shares in CNHna, you can buy shares in other co Fiat owns but you cant buy Fiat, its private. If America , and its companies would pull its head out of its A** , american companies rather than swiming in debt trying to please stock holders would be back on track to building stable untouchable companies like fiat has.

You are correct about the Fiat Allis deal, that wasnt a real positive, but back than they tried to push the foreign design into the american maket, same thing they did with the Hesston tractor (a rebadged Fiat). But it seems like Fiat learned its lesson on that subject, where most of the foreign companies that do come here still use that heavy handed approach of forcing there will, but I wonder just how much bullying the american companies do when they buy into the foreign market.

I hear you KC Grain. A public company cannot think long term. Their horizon often extends only to the next month end or the next quarter end.

Spud, that is true in all too many companies, but look at Ford and Apple. Both public companies that have gone their own way and been extremely successful.
I have mixed feelings about Fiat. They are a foreign company, but they have been supportive of US companies, at least lately. |

One has to remember AC and Fiat were both players in the Construction industry, Fiat was big outside the US and SA and both competed against CAT, IH, and other countries brands. The joint venture of AC/Fiat allowed AC capatil and Fiat a machine already in production they could integrate into their line easily.
Where the problem came in is dealer support and network under the Fiat/Allis North America Co. they closed parts houses, closed dealers, pulled support, centralised distrubution out of Chicago. Parts you use to get off the shelf now took a week to get or longer. From 1972 when I bought my machine the local supplier changed dealers 3 times within 5 years. When AC went under in AG line it all but killed the AC construction also.
Fiat coming back into the market in the US in the Construction has meant the New Holland, Ford, as well as now Case are again growing in that market.
Look at the excavator market, it was once held by a French company as leading in the market, now it's hard to find anything not built in Korea or outside the US. Edited by Coke-in-MN - 15 Nov 2011 at 10:41am |
