have a 2005 Husqvarna 22 HP BRIGGS - 54 inch deck - 3speed HI/LO garden tractor that i have used a lot.. 21 year old and NEVER worked on the carb... Now it has a sputter / cough at anything below 1000 RPM... thought it might be the plugs, so i cleaned them - looked OK... thought it has 21 year old CARB, maybe needs a clean.. Took it apart ( double barrel) and all the gaskets and o-rings are BRITTLE !! .
Looked on line for a KIT and they are about $12.... Saw that you could buy a China CARB for $18. that fits 21- 22- 23- 24 - 25 HP engines... EVERRY VEE engine they ever built ?? HOw can that be ???.... Well, i bought a Chink carb for 2 chain saws, a weed eater and a leaf blower over the last 5 years and they are all GREAT... so i thought, WHY NOT, Only $18 bucks !!! Installed yesterday and fired it up.. RUNS GREAT !!.... Idle was about 1000 RPM so i dropped that a little with the idle screw.. other than that NO MODS NEEDED ! Read on line that the plastic manifold can warp and suck air and cause "bad idle"... mine was pretty much flat, but i put a thin layer of Permatex on it anyway ! I have had GREAT LUCK with this little China Carbs..

GREAT, I 've also had GREAT success with those 'cheap china carbs' . Keep several on the shelf. Yes ago, Honda wanted $230+ for carb only, 9Hp. I swapped one off my 9HP 'offshore' engine. 1st pull, started and ran perfect. Since guy knew carb was $230, he was happy to pay me $300 to have his machine 'up and running'. Cost me $20 to replace the carb. What I don't understand is how Kubota can sell me a rear tire, on rim with valve , full of air for $340, yet the tire only is $500 !

well... like i sai... a box of 4 gaskets was $12.... but a MACHINED ALUMINUM carb with 14 different metal parts AND THE GASKETS was $18.... figure that out !
20 years ago that NIKKI double barrel carb was built in Japan... several years back they opened a manufacturing plant in China... i would BET that a NEW ENGINE comes with the CHINA CARB.. and the OEM sells them $18. CHINA CARBS for $250. Edited by steve(ill) - 13 Mar 2026 at 9:37am |

Been my luck also with those carbs. Original one goes in the trash, new one from china goes on and you are off and to the races.

Gee, lots of them for sale , north of the 49th. I've got 7 2stroke chainsaws that will go this Spring( when it comes). Tired of the 'no start' nonsense. Be happy to get $50 for all of them at the yard sale.

Before I retired from my real job, I was doing a pretty busy "part time" job of working on all sorts of two stroke,,,,you name it,,,,for Friends and neighbors,,,,,, Problem was,,they were the sort of friends that believed that "Friends" were not supposse to charge "Friends" what everybody else charged them,,,and since Ole Joe was just doing this "Part Time",,,he would not charge what others did,,,??? Fast forward to where the shops in town were charging the flat rate of $60 per hour,,,AND staying very busy,,SO,,I figured $40 was a fair price and that is when all the squalling begin,,,,!!! I stood my ground and kissed a few of them old codgers on the cheek and sent thrm to the shops in town,,,,(That'll teach em,,,,!! What I DID DO is to stop messing with them little carbs and start ordering the new chinese carbs and save everybody many dollars . I have got 2 new carbs that just would not run but the vendors on Ebay and Amazon have always replaced them asap,,,,, So far,,, everybody has been Fat, Dumb and Happy,,,!!!!

I hear ya Joe ! I priced myself out of repairing riders for strangers. spent 30+ years doing it for 'fun' and a few bucks but decided I'm worth as much as the 'pro' shops(then 60/hr, now 135 !). I don't miss it ! Instead I barter off Kubota work for fresh ,free range farm eggs, homemade soups and strudels and sourdour breads and yucky grunt work when I need help. Though with diesel quickly going up to $10 per gallon I may ask for a donation once in awhile.
