I was told my new B tractor that I bought at auction was a 1941 model. The serial number is B5583 which would fall in line with a 1938 production year tractor. Can anyone verify the true year of this tractor?

You would be correct.  If you can find one more number at the end, 55,000 would be a 41.

Sometimes, throughout the years things that will bolt right to other things are replaced.  Serial numbers don't always tell the story.  B, C, CA motors all bolt right up, so who REALLY knows...?Wink

Thank you for the cranking tip, and yes, I had seen that before. Next question, I ordered a replacement fuel bowl assembly from Yesterday's Tractor. It arrived today. Here is the link to what I ordered:

When it arrived, I noticed it was different from what was on the tractor. The original is brass. The replacement I received is not brass, but aluminum. My fuel line fitting is brass. If I connect the two, I believe they will eventually fuse together due to galvanic corrosion. I am disappointed and have to return it. Can anyone recommend a good source for parts/components that are more true to nature of what I have on my B?

Try an Agco dealer, near you, Their on-line catalog, or Sandy Lake Equipment, a site sponsor.  YT sells a lot of cheap chinese, or indian stuff.  You may find that that sediment bowl was made of who-knows-what pot metal...Wink

Every tractor I have owned has had the pot metal sediment bowl casting. I have never had any trouble with dissimilar metals fusing to them. The biggest problem seems to be a warped surface, where the bowl and gasket seat or a leaking packing nut on the shut off.

I wouldn't send it back until you find a brass one. I doubt you are going to find a new sediment bowl with a brass housing. The ones like you have work okay. 

I have used the (non-brass) housings and I have never seen the fuel line fuse to the sediment bowl. They only used brass on a few of the early tractors. Most never had brass sediment bowl housings. 

If you are concerned, there is a fitting that threads in between the sediment bowl housing and the fuel line. You could use a brass fitting there. The worst that could happen would be you would have to buy a new fitting if you can't remove it from the housing, but, again, I have never seen a problem with that.

Put thread tape on it and never look back!--Trust me they will never fuse!--been around them for 60 years and never saw one fuse!--All you can get nowdays is the luni crap and as stated, they can warp and leak but thats the chance you have to take.
Mine is also a 4 digit serial #, --have it here somewhere but don't see it right now.
38 had no hyd., also they have mag. ignition.
