My son was using my 5020 4x4 to pull logs down for a friend to cut up for firewood. I heard the tractor shut off and seen the boy walking down the hill....well that can't be good. Right front wheel locked up. Not wanting to make things worse I put a couple of logs under the loader buck and lifted the front wheels off the ground and steered with the brakes. It worked got off the hill and into the garage without messing up any of the gears, only had to replace the bearing that went bad.
So if you find yourself in that situation and have a loader, shove sum logs, lumber, metal pipe, etc. under the bucket and lift your front end off the ground. If you start chewing up the gears in the front axle it's gonna get expensive fast!! |

no there's a lever under the seat to put it into 4 wheel. but the final drive gears in the front axle/hub still turn in 2 wheel.

on a similar note... if you have a D-14 be SURE BOTH bolts holding the steel plate that holds the 'wishbone' on are TIGHT !.....
Yup, one 'fell' out on me...furthest corner of the property(Murphy's Law) and the WHOLE front axle kind slipped out....... |

Wow - having the front end "kind of slip out" sounds thoroughly annoying!
Clever idea to create a skid for the front end!!

There's another way. Most wf's have a limiter stop, to keep the FE from rising up to hit the sheet metal, on the tractor. Find that spot, jack the tractor up, with the lame foot up in the air, and stick a wedge between the axle, and the stop, tape, wire, or chain the wedge in place, and you can limp home... There's a video of an old man and his wife, on the opposite fender, with only 1 front wheel, riding in a parade, I think the tractor is a romanian ford...
