Newbie to this site so forgive me if this post is in the wrong forum. Now down to business..... My Dad has a 5020 4WD with the serial number of 1. That's right #1. Everything works great. No issues with the 4 wheel drive. Seat cushion is pretty much toast, but everything mechanical works good yet. My question is this... We are attempting to sell this fine machine and wondering if any collectors out there would pay extra because of the serial number. We would prefer to keep it to a local sale (North Iowa) and wondering if you guys/gals could offer up a suggested sale price based off the #1 serial number.

Anybody with a sense of value for it would probably want to see a pic of the tractor.

First off let me say I have a 2WD 5020 and absolutely enjoy it! That being said I personally don't think # 1 5020 holds the same merit as a serial number 1 tractor that rolled out of West Allis. My main reasoning behind my opinion is it may be # 1 Allis but since Massey and Hinomoto sold the same tractor it would be hard to authenticate the "real" first tractor. JMHO, Eric

Serial numbers started at 1001 on the 5020 in 1977 according to tractordata.com

Was FWD an option from the beginning of production? or did it come along later like the 12 speed trans...??

It sounds like I'm getting some doubt from you guys as far as authenticity about this tractor. All I can tell you is that my Dad bought this tractor from an Allis Chalmers dealer in early 1978 with about 20 hours on it. He said the dealer used it for about a year on his own property before selling to my Dad. It has never left his acreage since then. The serial plate under the steering wheel has only the number 1 on it. The transmission housing has 00001 stamped in the housing.

Gets some pics when you get a chance, of the plates too
I also agree with Eric on what he says about the value not being as great as it would be if it had rolled out of West Allis. |

I'm not doubting the authenticity or your dad's word. It was not my intention to offend anyone and if I did I Apologize. I personally would not pay a premium for the serial number but more so because it's a 1 owner tractor |

I gave $2000 for my 5020 2wd, so I guess it would be worth $2500 - $3000. Probably depending on the condition of the tin, and tires, and overall operation of the tractor.

I'll try to get some pics when I get a chance. We're dealing with a funeral also at the moment. Hence the reason for trying to get a fair market price for his tractor.

I also realize it's a Hinomoto made tractor for AC. So I understand the reasoning of lesser value since it's not a true AC. We have already taken that into account. I appreciate the feedback and input. Other than this little AC yard tractor, we grew up on green machines.

If it's really nice maybe could grab closer to $4000 or even $5000.

Having a hard time uploading pictures. Says the pictures have to be less than 2mb. Mine are 3mb or more. I'm trying to load off my phone, so not sure how to downsize, since I'm an old farm boy.

It's always been kept under roof except for blowing snow and running the Lawn Genie in the spring & fall. He used to do some tilling with the tiller attachment years ago when he had a garden. He probably put about 40 hours a year on it since '78.
