Topic: 190xt PTO Lever QuestionPosted: 10 Jun 2026 at 5:54am |

My new to me 190XT has two PTO levers. One is installed in the floor and the other is installed in side console which is supposed to be a hydraulic version, I believe. The side console lever doesn't move at all. The floor lever is what engages the PTO now. Did this tractor have Hydro PTO at one time and someone replaced it with the floor lever? I haven't taken the console shield off to investigate. I don't think it would come with two levers from factory? I read operators manual but not a lot about the hydro version. It isn't giving me any problems but am curious why two levers.

The PTO valve is located under the platform directly down from the lever......if it is there.

I looked through my pictures to see if I could get a picture of the valve. I found one. It isn't clear, but it does show valve location.
![]() If it has the hydraulic valve try spraying WD40 or similar into the console and waiting a day to see if the detent loosens up. I usually just fog some in around the remote levers. I learned recently(from this forum) that all 190XTs with a PTO have the disconnect lever on the left side, but on hydraulic control models nothing was hooked to it. It sounds like yours may have been modified since it left the factory. Ted |

That blue circle is the Power Director valve. The hydraulic PTO clutch valve (an option) is 16 inches to the rear of that blue circle, if it has one.

The hydraulic PTO lever can seize up. I think it's just the detents. I have not had to deal with it personally. But have seen handles welded and bent from people pulling on them. Need to spray with something better then WD40

Remove the linkage from the valve - see if the lever moves. See which is froze. The PTO valve is almost identical to the PD except with no relief system.

This thread is very timely. I have a 190. I Hadn't used the PTO in a while. Just a few days ago I tried it and was very stiff to move, almost locked up. I used a good penetrating oil and sprayed "Free All" using the straw into the cracks around the pto lever and into the openings around the hydraulic levers on top and works smoothly again. So guessing your right about lubricating the detents

This is a new one to me. I have never seen a XT with both levers, one or the other. Mine is hydraulic, lever on the console. A friend of mine early 190 is on the floor left of the seat. Sounds like the console may have been upgraded since you say it is presently engaged by the lever on the left coming up through the floor?

If you look behind the battery box, I'd bet your mighty 190/190XT has the short manual lever already protruding from the torque housing. It has the hydraulic PTO clutch, so the left hand platform lever was never installed at the factory. Why the original posters tractor has two levers, I have no idea. I doubt that it left Milwaukee like that.

Going from the hydraulic PTO engagement which is on the side of the console, to the lever coming out of the floor which is a manual connect/disconnect is going backwards. My guess would be that the tractor came from the factory with the hydraulic PTO option, and at one point in its life, the rear end got swapped out, and the doner rear end didn't have the hydraulic option. If you find evidence that the hydraulic PTO is still in there, but the lever is just seized up, by all means, free it up and use it.

Couldn’t you just look at the pto drop box to see if there’s hydraulic lines going into it or not.

I took pictures of it and compared to AGCO Parts diagram. I believe it is still there and lines going to it but not totally sure what I am looking at just yet. I need to remove the cover. Picture showing both levers. ![]() I believe this is the valve showing linkage and lines connected. ![]() Here is the parts diagram for the PTO Valve. I see 3 lines connected as in the diagram. ![]() |

It appears the PTO hyd valve was added on after the tractor was built. There's no paint on it or the lines going to it.

That makes more sense than adding a manual lever later. I wonder if they tried to add it and gave up? In order to use a hydraulic version, you would surely have to de-install the manual lever, or could both work? I will take that cover off and see what I find as to why the lever is locked up.

The hand lever to the left of the seat was normally left off when factory equipped with the hydraulic PTO OPTION. BUT, if you look behind the battery box and follow the link rod from the hand lever down to the torque housing, you will see a short lever that came on EVERY tractor at that time. So, BOTH types were on every tractor that had a hyd PTO clutch.

That's interesting. I suppose they could have put the hydraulic version on and then it broke so they put the long lever back on. In order to use the hydraulic version, do you have to push the clutch in like the manual one? Trying to figure out the advantage of the hydraulic PTO engagement.

The hydraulic could be engaged on the go. No foot clutching.

You don't have to use the clutch to engage the hydraulic clutch. I do use the foot clutch if it is a heavy load, if for instance you don't let your baler clean out at the end of the row, or when you first start it for the day. I think it is more likely that someone added the lever to the mechanical (left) side when they had problems with the linkage on the hydraulic. It has been a lot of years since it left the factory, hard to know. I have a 190XT that has a 200 serial number, so I know at least the torque tube has been changed.

The hydraulic also had a braking function didn't it?

Yes, two pistons on each side of the hydraulic feed line. The pistons are hydraulically tied together and push on the front of the PTO clutch housing.
