I can see the point either way but hauling one 250 miles on a low boy I have a choice. It has its muffler with a flapper pointing towards cab. Should I have them rag the muffler, take off muffler and rag turbo outlet or leave it alone. Weather here has finally calmed but crazy hot.

And as long as I am asking these questions. To get this tractor hauled by someone i can trust,he is taking the tractor back to his farm and I am going to drive 40 miles to my place, back roads.
The tractor has 18.4 x42 radials with fluid that I want to check before trip. Half afraid to even check them, they look great but I know fluid tires. What PSI should they be set to. 11.00x16 ft

It really doesn't take much effort to stuff a rag in the muffler 
That said, my Son-in-law hauls heavy equipment every day for a local construction company and he never does anything with the exhaust and has never had any problems.

Radial tires on an empty tractor, unless they looked terribly low i don't think it's would get overly concerned. Easy enough to put a rag in the exhaust or a couple pieces of duck tape over the flap. Kind of like a tamper proof seal. Then you have no worries at all. And you don't have to worry about something getting in the exhaust going down the road. Matters which way the exhaust flap is, depends on if he loads it forward or backward

I always stuff a rag in the pipe when I haul my XT just to be safe. Tape across the flapper so it doesn’t fly up or remove it. If you remove it place a plastic bottle over the pipe and tape it to the pipe. That prevents a surprise shower from ending up in the turbo.

I've heard many say it doesn't matter. I have seen brand a new tractor come in to a dealer without the exhaust being plugged and the turbo was shot. I never haul anything with a turbo without stuffing a rag or a tight fitting can on the exhaust. If possible I also plug the intake. It's your tractor, do you want to take your chances?

Load it backwards or run a long strap around the cab to secure the doors.

Yes do strap the doors. I bought a 8070 that a door came open hauling it. Sprung the door. I worked 2 days trying to geit it unsprung. I got it to fit bacc to the cab frame but the window wouldnt lay flat. Since they are glued in i was afraid of it. Wound up getting another door

I have met some intersting people on this chase. I made the trip to look at this tractor becuase last time trusting someone over the phone was a valuable lesson. Turns out this time,so far, has been more than refreshing. Seller pointed out flaws and listened when I explained the things needed as I saw it and adjusted price.
The man going after the tractor is Allis also. He even has his semi painted AC colors. Said he was on a silage chopping crew that went from Flordia to where the tractor is at in the most northern part of Indiana.
We talked, he said most times he loads backwards mainly cuase of road damage and yep tape the muff.
I like it when you find people, which doesn't happen often anymore, you can just say do it and it's done like you want.

To me, covering the exhaust is a no brainer. Do you really want to take a chance of ruining the turbo for the sake of a couple minute easy task of covering or stuffing something into the exhaust pipe?

Somebody that has done 40 miles chime in. When we farmed we dorve to my grandparents place probably a good 15. Dr Allis says you guys pack up a cooler and go for 50. I'm going to grease her and take off in the morning.

Have driven tractors and combine over 40 miles many many times. Pick the smoothest roads, not the shortest trip and enjoy the scenery

Remember to check the fluids too. I bought a tractor in the winter so the dealer had it running for me. I drove it the few miles home and parked in the drive, when I went to put it in the barn it ran out of fuel! I have learned not to trust unfamiliar fuel gauges.

We bought a 7060 PS at a retirement auction 35 miles away. Filthy. Had a loader on it that sold separate. Summertime. We checked all fluids and carried extra for the drive and kept our fingers crossed. Only incident was the foot throttle was sticking so it wouldn't idle down at intersections. Then picked up a 7030 near there at an estate auction. Power director. Winter. Took a lot effort to get running. When it fired we found it wouldn't move. But we had planned to haul it anyway. Has some leaks, the floor buttons were disconnected and the hi/lo shifter was converted to stick shift which was loose on the stub. Just look it over good and drive it around a bit before you commit to the trip.

I had a 2-day ride in July. Friday was 84 miles and Saturday was 61 miles. Both days temps in low 90's. 50 miles is a short ride for me.

40 miles, I’d drive it in a heartbeat! Did the WHO tractor ride this year on the NFE WD 45, in the 16 mph group, no sweat!

I probably haven't driven 145 miles TOTAL on farm tractors in my entire life!  Logging equipment (skidders and crawlers) is a different story...

Wow, what a day. Up and ran the route backwards getting there. Been raining here excessive. Almost there, water running a across the road. My Jeep made it about 10 inches. Got to tractor, talked,paid qtook off. Asked wife if she ok with water,walking back to tractor and see a turtle swimming in the stream. 2 hours 45 min with 2 roadside stops.
Tractor liked it.
