With a 5 or 5.5 in. crank is there a stock type piston that will work in a 226.

I know a 5 inch stroke works with M&W 4.125" pistons from D17/WD45.....5 1/2" stroke is probably a bit much for the same piston.

Thanks doc, i was hoping that i could talk to you about this kind of set up but i've lost your phone #. Did you build any of those drop in kits you talked about earlier this year? Got a WD that we're turning into a full time puller and would like your opinion on some things.

use a 400 cheverolet piston with a 1.6 compreshion height . you will have a 7.4 cr with a flat top. with a dome you could get some increase comp.ratio

I know of a automotive piston that will yield 13.1 with the stock rods and 5.5 stroke with a deck height of 12.656

I should have said up to 115. What octane does one need for a 10:1 CR? What about a 12:1?

I have 4 used arias forged 4.125 pistons I will sell that will yield that cr with the 7.5 long rod . or you can use a 7 1/4 long 153 farmall rod and 5 3/4 stroke for 11.1 cr or the 7 3/8 allis d19 or buda rod with the 5 3/4 stroke yields 14.1 . I ran that combination for two years on 110 motor octane with no promblems. pistons shiped to you for 300. I can get cast 4.188 new pistons that will do the same cr ratios for the same price but have to add shipping.

I thought pricing a used forged top quality set of pistons at half its new market price would get some interest . I guess I was wrong.

Hold on, I know YT. He's not on here all the time but he'll check back in. I've seen the tractor that he's thinking about building up for a puller. I know he's serious about doing it right..That and he respects yours (mlpankey) and Dr. Allis 's knowlage on this subject..

cwhitt I probably did jump to conclusions to soon . I get alot of calls and questions what can be done on a 1500 dollar budget . I laugh and say you only have a 1000 dollar budget for the bearings ,rings and gaskets eat up 500 easy.

Im going to try building a Allis WC for pulling and farm use. I was gonna put in a wd 45 crank, stock rods and slight cam work with flat top pistons but when i do the math I get 15 : 1 compression. I may have the math wrong but anyone got any advice to bring it down so i can still run pump gas and start it from the stock starter.
