It is exactly what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, there must have been some disconnect between Milwaukee (where the engine was built) and Independence, Missouri (where the combine was built).  I have seen Gleaner E-3 engines that have "Z" compression ratio codes stamped on the blocks serial number. The "Z" code was to indicate an 8.0 to 1 compression ratio, which should have increased the engine HP to 67 at 1650 RPM.  The spec's page in your book still shows the older model "E" specs of the "M" code which was 7.25 to 1, same as a regular D-17 engine, which was 63 HP at 1650 RPM. The E-3 was to have gotten a HP up-rate from 63 to 67 over what the model "E" had. Thank you very much for the help. It's pretty clear the compression ratios were changed from the M to Z codes, but I guess the owners manual printers weren't informed !!  Kind of like the Federal Government was involved ??

Just got off of the AGCO parts website and all model "E"'s had 7.25 to 1 pistons and all model "E-3"'s had 8.0 to 1 pistons. No serial number breaks on either. So, the E-3 was given a HP up-rate of I think 4 HP just with a compression increase. Carbs and camshafts are identical between them.
