 Topic: Plowing at MIAPA show 8-2-26

Yesterday we plowed at the Marshalltown show. Conditions were a bit wet but it pulled easier than any other time I’ve plowed there. Here’s the video I shot.

Mike, thanks for the ride along. Brings back memories of 70+ years ago. I never plowed with a slate plow, they came into vogue later. My Dad had a 4 bottom behind a D 17. Good to see your TB gauge working. Looks like you hit some clay for the downshift. It makes sense that

The clay on the hills gets pretty tough! I like to watch the TB gauge, keep it where it’s active. Blows my mind how well the system works. Guys that designed it 80 odd years ago really had it together!

There are always complainers out there about the Traction Booster system and its performance. I am and have been convinced that: #1. The system isn't adjusted/configured correctly. #2. They don't really understand how to efficiently use it. #3. The tractor still has to be weighted to at least 100 lbs per PTO HP (you can't plow without adequate weight front and rear to compliment the TB). #4. You need sharp plow shares to keep the plow sucked in the ground so when TBoost tries to transfer it doesn't lift the plow up and out. There are more things that have to be right, but nyou see what I'm getting at. I know if I shut mine OFF on the WD-45, the left land wheel starts to spin depending on the soil conditions.

I really enjoyed the video and appreciate you taking the time to make it. I plowed some as a kid, 200 with a 5/16 semi mount but plowing was headed out in the late 80's. You're unit sure sounds good.

Thanks for the video. Brought back many memories riding on the toolbox with dad 60 some years ago. No tool box today has the capacity to let me ride now. Sure miss those days.

I was only there on Friday for about 5 hours, looked but never saw you either.
The plow has basically new shares and I think the new landsides really helped too. I really enjoy moldboard plowing, as you guys have probably noticed. Just try to keep learning and doing a better job. I will say, the slat-bottoms have really grown on me. They work so good when the soil is sticky.
