New valve guides - dilemma??

   The head from my CA is at the machine shop. They want to use a grooved bronze insert rather than the cast guides that came with the valve kit I supplied. They said umbrella seals can be used with the grooved insert, if not, the tractor will smoke "some". I thought seals were never to be used with this design head. I'm ok with bronze inserts, but not sure about the seals, and a new engine that smokes "some" is unacceptable to me. They claim whether umbrella seals are used or not the inserts are still the better way to go over pressing in new cast guides. Thoughts...

	Trying to re-invent the wheel. The Allis design was good enough for 70+ years and they have a better way ?? They have no idea how little oil even gets to those valve guides and the engine doesn't operate more than 2,000 RPM. What they want to do is probably fine, but not really any "better". Ask them to define why their way is "better". EDIT: I wonder if they even have the tooling it takes to press the OEM design guides in and out of the cylinder head ??? I'll bet NOT !!. 	I had very similar experience with my C head. The machinist offered umbrellas also. I did not install them. I couldn’t understand how any oil could ever lubricant the guides with them on.
