There's a 180 for sale about a hour or so from here and I'm looking for a backup for my Kubota M6800. According to tractor data, the 180 is quite a bit heavier than my Kubota which would be a good thing. Only issues I can see are the exhaust height and the low gear speed. According to tractor data the exhaust height is 90". Is this right? That would put the exhaust at 7 1/2 feet? I know I can cut the pipe. Just seems mighty tall for a 70 hp tractor. Also is the 2.1 mph in 1st gear correct? My Kubota with 28" rears runs about 1.6(?) I think and can run out of power with a windrower in heavy litter. Think of a windrower as a 6 1/2 ft tiller 6 inches deep in heavy soil. Even if it's not the best option or just flat won't work I'll still call about the tractor. Any quirks other than the normal gear jumping?

I have spent a lot of hours on a 180 and 185. I don't think you will find low gear too fast for any job.
Dad's 185 had 30" tires and the 180 had 28". The 185 was a bit faster, but still not too fast.

What ya intend to use it for, what other kind of implements can you hook onto? When we finally got a 180 on the farm it got used for everything from pulling a 4 bottom plow through tough soil, pulling a 6 row no till Planter to square bailing. I dont think a windrower will bother it, but I'd have never pulled one ither.

It'll mainly be used for litter work in my chicken houses. That's the reason for the height concern. About the only other things I do with a tractor around here are maybe a rotary mower and if we decide to cut a little hay for our goats it'll get mower and baler duty. I haven't seen the tractor but the guy is asking $4k. $4k for a 70hp tractor, even one this old, I'm not expecting a whole lot.

Modern tractors are lighter per HP than something from the 1960's. That Kubota weighs 5,000 lbs dry/no cab and a 180 is 6700 lbs dry/no cab.  Muffler stack height a problem?? Well, that can easily be dealt with.
