If you brought me your Power Director clutch and said "rebuild it like it was your own",  I almost for sure probably wouldn't replace ANY drive discs or separator plates. Not saying that I absolutely wouldn't, but highly doubtful;. You'd have to have the clutch run dry on oil or be so badly shimmed by someone who had no idea what they were doing to warrant their replacement.  If those parts aren't warped, they are probably good for re-use. I would replace C-clips as needed, all the six rollers and most probably the two ramp plates. The Low and High drive hubs if badly worn would be considered for replacement t. That's it. So, why do you think you need all 7 drive discs??

Thanks for your quick and honest reply. After a lengthily explanation my response to you was deleted by a "system error" whatever that means. So ill post a few pics instead.

I'll try again, yes low oil and the shims were way out of spec. long and short were used in the center location, huge gap. A few clutch linings are at or beyond the ware indicators and a few are gouged. High temp discoloration on a couple of them. The brass collar let go and made a real mess, a nut from the collar bolt must have gotten in between the brass collar and the slipper tube (I call it) and wiped out the cog on the slipper tube. I never found the one missing nut after a very thorough search. I have a replacement brass collar and the cast piece that activates it. Also have a clutch housing with the engagement linkage on the way. I'm learning as I go on this one.

You could settle for a D-14 clutch (identical) or a D-17/19 clutch (almost identical) and wind up with all the parts you will need.

Ok I put a few pics, the clutch plates are not all that bad I guess. The grooves in the plate are exaggerated by the pic. I can just grab the indentation with my thumbnail. Am I trying to fool myself or is unacceptable condition to use this tractor for brush hogging a few times a year for 2 1/2 acres. Been using it all along with no PD as it is.

Ramp plate(s) pockets for the rollers that look like those will surely jump out of engagement when the engine is running wide open throttle. I see it has two different driving disc styles, which means someone has been in there before. A missing nut ?? Have you removed the tin pan under the PTO drive gear area? which is just ahead of where this clutch is located. What I see, if the discs and steel plates aren't warped, they will work as-is. Get it shimmed properly with new ramp plates and keep 2+ gallons of oil in it and you'll be fine.

The other ramp plate is worn more than the first ramp plate I posted. Yes clearly someone was into this and really made a mess of things. At this point I would have to have new ramp plates in your opinion? Could they be built up with weld and put on a surface grinder then touch up the ramps with a small die grinder? Have you heard of such a thing? Good used ones are probably non existent?

That is JUNK. and is the cause of the hand levers jumping into neutral when you throttle the engine up to wide open.  Sooo, the inexperienced shade tree wrench feels quite safe in thinking he can "shim" things around to make it stop jumping out, which doesn't work. A & I used to have them. I've never had any built up, so I have no experience on that. If you do, remember every time you snap the lever into engagement, that's one more time closer to being worn out it is.  If you could find a PTO clutch out of a D-21, they might be pretty nice, as that clutch may not have been used much at all over the years.

Thanks Doc I do appreciate your quick reply and knowledge. I will look around for the D21 pto ramp plates as you've suggested, if I can't find anything or nobody has good plates for sale on this site I might not even reinstall the PD and list the parts I've already bought on ebay. This tractor is pretty ruff, runs great, I got the traction control working again, without the PD working it still pulls a 3 bottom and an 8' disc on hilly terrane with no problem.

A good deal of more popular models that use those ramp plates, LOW side is usually always in much better condition than HIGH side. Why??  ..........who uses Low side that much ??
