A friend is looking for a Massey Ferguson 1100 tractor that he will be using on a 4x6 round baler. One owner told him the clutch will not last using it on the baler. Has anyone had any problem with this? Also, what has been one's experience with the 1100? Thanks

All the local guys that had 1100's loved them and swore by them. I have heard of some problems with their Multi-Power, but I think that was mostly the smaller tractors (165, 175 & 180).

Those 354 Perkins motors were tough and powerful old beasts.I have a Long R9500 which is basically a Landini rear end bolted to a MF 1100 frontend good old tractor.

1080 1100 had any of the same multi power things happen if the hydralic pto is is ok then the multi power is probley fine they are not hard to split to put a clutch in but if you do put new seals in the input shaft and the multi power valve while you are their

Not a Massy guy but my father in laws 1100 was better on the 20ft harrowgater on plowed ground than my WD45....

Neighbor had an 1100 about 40 years ago. Said it was the biggest POS they ever had. Used it for 2 years and switched to a 4020. They still have the 4020!

I had a 1130 for a short while, I liked it,, the perkins seems to be a good engine, even with dry sleeves,, sometimes I wish I hadn't sold it,didn't really use it much, but, I think was a decent tractor,, kinda lookin for another..have your friend consider the 1130 also, little more HP can't be bad

I believe the only difference in the 1100 and 1130 was that they added a turbo to the 1130?

I think you are pretty close. The 1100 may not have had an engine oil cooler, where the 1130 would have. The Multi-Power and PTO clutches may have had an extra disc or two. Foot clutch may have been a little beefier. But, overall pretty much the same model in two HP versions. I always called the 1964 MF 1100 a Deere 4020 wannabe. Remember the 4010 was out in the Fall of 1960 and the 4020 came out sometime in 1964. Massey feverishly created the new 1100 in three years time. It had many "4020" features. Closed Center hydraulics. Crankshaft driven hydraulic pump. Planetary final drives. Wet hydraulic power brakes. I believe a diff lock of some kind too. They jumped right in with the 5 features, that for the most part, were cutting edge features. They expanded upon the Multi-Power that they already had. They had 12-speeds instead of 8-speeds. They had a weight transfer system that worked. They had a hydraulic suspension seat. They had a large high-up platform. Overall, I think they did a pretty marvelous job BUT, it's interesting how many features are just like a 4020 !!
