working on 170 power director. there is a spacer ring at the front of the gears that go in the disc. the old spacer was sprung and wearing into the first disc. this spacer is about 4 inches across, about a 1/4 inch thick by 3/16 inch wide. there is a corresponding snap ring that holds it in place. pulled new spacer out of package and notice it is also twisted or sprung on one end. this part is obsolete from agco. what would you do?

Twist it back into shape or get another one from a salvage yard, which is where I assume this one came from. There are hundreds of D-17's and 170's scrapped out. Shouldn't be any problem finding a good one.

we put the director together with a used part. it is straight, the parts out of 5 different older ones of course are different. would like to know someone else is having a adventure puttting something together. even the dealership doesn't understand the problem on the partrs

The difference on the spacer thickness should be three kinds. D-14/D-15 would be the thickest. Any D-17 and 170 would be a little thinner and a D-19/175 would be the thinnest I think. This is due to the number of driving discs inside the Power Director clutch, 3 and 4 and 5.

thanks for the info Dr.Allis. pcs parts are pcs parts but when comes to specific parts I try every way to go OEM if possible and agco dealerships will sell new in the box if they can. there are fewer and fewer dealers familiar with american orange. Which means there is less mechanics with knowledge to support the repair of the classics. with the passing of time, there will be less new OEM parts available. the salvage yards will be asking premium prices in the future. Dealing with the power director I knew we would have to go with as many OEM parts as possible. it has been a while since working one, 30years to be exact. I now know what parts to look for used and what is acceptable. Never turn down used parts if you can learn from them, especially if they have a part number on them. thanks again to all for now and in the future.
