I swear I performed a search before posting this. I'm pretty sure I've seen this info on here somewhere so I'm sorry if this is a repeat.  I purchased an 8070 FWA with 20.8x38 rear and 18.4x26 fronts. I purchased this tractor to pull a haylage baler and with this combination, the tractor rides nose high, puts the drawbar at a funky angle and too close to the ground. The fronts need to be replaced so now is the time to fix this situation. The rear rims are on their last go round as well (calcium chloride has eaten them up) so a change all the way around is not out of the question. Anybody have a better tire combination? Thanks for the help.

You should have a 16.9 x 28 front tire on your tractor to match up to the 20.8 38 on the back. Right now your ratio is not correct.

20.8x42 on the back and leave that 18.4 on the front. It will be straight!  Then mount 3 steps.

Note that radials are different heights. They are taller.
I have bias front 10 ply and radial rears.
If you look at Lynn's tire chart, radials are specifically noted with a "R".
That's why my tire combination works

Our 8050 has 20.8R 38s on the back, and 18.4R-26 firestone fwa tires on the front. They are to big. They are slipping constantly, even with no load. Tractor sits with it's nose up like you said. They say 16.9s can be put on the same rims that the 18.4s are on, but we have not done that yet because the old tires are still going. Some have 14.9-28s on the front, and I think they are a little smaller in circumference than the 18.4-26s. Just my penny's worth.

Mine has the 16.9 x 26 fronts with the 20.8 R38 on rear and is fairly level. But as Ron has pointed out, if you already have 18.4 fronts, get the 20.8 x R42 for the rear. I would do that.

Thanks Ron (AB), I like the idea of going up instead of down in height. This may be a stupid question, but I will need the 42" centers (I have a sliding axle) won't I?

Put fwd tires back on the front, otherwise you will be buying another set soon.

Rims rotted from calcium solution: imagine that. As I've said many times to those that just have to fill tires with calcium solution, it's not IF the rims will rust out, but WHEN.

You currently have 38" rims and 38" centers. A step up rim has a large "bulge" in the center so you can use your existing 38" centers. Sorry it's kind of a weird explanation. Your 38" rim has a shallow bulge where the wedge's go. A step up rim has a much deeper buldge.

Wold Rim and Wheel at Saint Ansgar, Iowa has 18.4 x 42’s spin out rims. I have pictures of them on my phone. I’ll try and‘s to get them posted.
