I saw a Marvel Schebler TSX (chinese knockoff I'm sure) for Ford 8n, etc. listed on ebay. Looks like it might be compatible to a B. For about $30, I might try it myself in the future. Thoughts?

Watch some of those Carburetors especially the linkage arms. The B/C/CA models use the straight up long throttle lever. Not sure how these Chinese Tractor carbs work, but I've had some luck with the knock-off carbs for the small air cooled engines. They actually worked pretty darn good. Surprised the Hell outta' me. At least the couple I purchased for the snowblower and weed wacker. I look at it as I'm two for two so far.... LOL!

I've had good luck with them. I've used a few on small engines and I have used two aluminum Marvel Schebler clones that I installed on Farmall Super As this year. I was replacing some leaking Carter carbs that just couldn't be rebuilt and not leak any more. Both work great but did require me to adjust the governor. They caused surging at high idle after getting the mixture adjusted, so per the manual, I turned in a dampening spring in about one turn and it solved the problem. The throttle throw is shorter so the range on the throttle lever is shorter, but that's all I have noticed. For the money, I am very happy. I spent about $56 on each carb.

I bought one for a STIHL 250 chain saw... Cost me $15. NEW !! Worked great... hard to believe they can build one for that and ship it half way around the world !

I purchased an eBay carb this spring for the 16 HP Briggs and Stratton in my Allis Chalmers 716H garden tractor. It works great. Minor adjusting to obtain low idle and runs fine at full throttle. The internals, jets, float, dimensions, finishes seemed to be identical to the OEM
Pricing was average for the eBay carb suppliers, Delivery/packaging excellent
A word of caution, technical support was friendly, timely, but TOTALLY USELESS. Before purchasing, I asked for the specs/dimensions for the cap screws to attach the carb to the tractor manifold and the response I received showed the writer had absolutely no idea what I was looking for............my comment would be be prepared to work with out any technical support
I did my research before buying from various Internets Forums sites and got comfortable with buying, and my experience pretty much lined up with what others had experienced.
I would prefer to buy domestic, but with carbs the cost difference is substantial.
Finally, I would buy another one in a heart beat

Never bought any for a a tractor yet but bought many for chainsaws and atvs for myself and others, all running good today with zero problems, not my claim but lots of people on forums claim they are better them the carbs that came on the chainsaws

Steve, you would pay TWICE as much in labor to have it overhauled as you would to get it replaced... ( if your using the $15. chineese carb)

Same experience with a string trimmer Walbro diaphragm carb. I found a Walbro rebuild kit for 13 bucks...ok that's reasonable. Listed right below it was a complete China carb that included a spark plug, air filter and the gas tank pick up lines for 12 bucks! Ended up getting them both just to see. Rebuild kit worked perfectly as expected. Slapped on the China carb just for fun, and it ran just as well as the Walbro.
Have also experienced cheap motorcyle carbs that weren't worth the plastic bag they were shipped in.

Here is the link to the ebay seller and the exact carb I purchased a year ago for my AC716H with the Briggs and Stratton 16 HP engine
Please note this is for a Briggs and Stratton 16 HP Single Cylinder Cast Iron engine. My 716H came from the factory with this engine in 1979. Most 716H models were fitted with a Kohler engine, very similar in appearance to the Briggs, but they have a completely different carb setup. It appears AC wanted to keep supply chains open, or honor contracts to Briggs and Kohler in that period. The odd 716H with a Briggs appears on for sale sites, or Forums like this one or Simple Tractors, a very helpful AC/Simplicity Garden Tractors Forum
Please check and make sure what engine you have in your 716H before you go any further with your project. A quick reference is the orientation of the air filter housing on the carb, Briggs is horizontal, and the Kohler is vertical.
I would send you a pic of mine, but my pic files are too large for this site Here is a link to the Simple Tractors site and a discussion on a 716H fitted with a Briggs and Stratton engine, some pics showing the carb etc
The ebay carb supplier above might supply carbs for the Kohler engine if that is what you need. See my comments in previous notes above ...........good product but NO Technical Support

Robert, if you open the photo on your computer in PAINT or similar program, and make it 800 x 600 pixels, it fits a lot better on the page, and does not take up as much of your storage room.

I went through my ATC 70 for my grandkids last year. Went to order a new carb kit from Honda, $39. Bought a brand new knock off out of FL and it was $18 with free shipping!!! Exact carb that came on it including the choke lever. Never had to adjust it and it runs great! Started on the 2nd pull and had not been run for 11 years. I wouldn’t have any issue trying one. Beware if it says shipped from China, you may never receive it or it will be 6 months coming

Matter of fact I need to look for one for my Onan on my 720. Throttle shaft is worn and I have to manually hold the throttle plate full off to get her to start. Been a good one for 46 years. Ed how did the carb you got for yours work out? It was for a Kohlor wasn’t it?

Here is a pic of a 716H fitted with a Kohler engine
Very similar engines in terms of size, HP, appearance, configuration (single cylinder, cast iron block). The exhaust piping to the muffler is a slightly different. Hopefully, this will help you determine what engine is in your 716H. My understanding is Allis Chalmers/Simplicity tractors could accept either model with minor electrical adjustments for starter/charging/ignition setup etc
Both engines have serial numbers on the cooling shroud cover area
Let me know if need more info

Be careful what you purchase as many of these MAY FIT but are not to original specs and have configuration issues. A great example is some sites will sell you a carburetor that is supposed to fit a model One-Seventy AND a D-17. Now any of you who know these two models of tractors, are aware of the fact that the 170 carb air inlet points forward towards the radiator and all D-17's point to the rear. Because of this, the throttle connection and choke connection and even the fuel linlet is all bass-ackwards between the two tractors, BUT they sell you one carb to fit both !!! Even the air cleaner hose connection is different as 2 inch on the 170 and 1 3/4" for the D-17. Let alone the internal differences. BEWARE !!

Correct. I had to do some serious reconfiguring to get the one to work on my 8hp briggs. It "fit", but I had to move the muffler and use the butterfly from the old carb as the linkage was different.

I've bought several carbs for weed eaters, pole saws and lawn mowers made in China. They are extremely cheap but only about 1 out of 4 don't have float valve seating problems. When you get a good one they work well but sometimes you have to return several to get a good one.

In addition to my note above from Sept 28 in the above thread........
The new carb was identical to the OEM on the 716H, dimensions, levers, clearances, etc
The ebay carb was a perfect fit to the Briggs engine mounting flange. I had to supply the mounting bolts - a gasket came with the carb. The new carb did not come with the long thin threaded at both ends bolt that threads into the carb base and extends vertical to hold the air filter element and air filter cover, all held in place by the wing nut on top of the cover. I was able to move the long thin bolt from the OEM to the new carb with no issues, just being careful to not force any of the threaded connections.
Should mention the air filter and metal cover were not supplied with the new carb, but the OEM on the 716H fit the new carb perfectly.
Sure hope this helps you with your project, and if your 716H engine is a Kohler, then perhaps some of the info provided on the threads above will help you move forward
PS I was able to find a lot of info on the internet when I was trying to determine what to do with my old carb. Google Allis Chalmers 716H carb A very helpful resource is a mechanic Zippo Varga, who has a YouTube site, many vids, specializes in small engines, and might be worth a look see. He does lots of AC/Simplicity, Briggs and Kohler along with other brands
