8050 engine front plate leak.

I have a serious leak between block and front plate just above the oil pan. Part of the gasket came out. I plan to repair it myself. What's the best way to go about it? Remove front 2wd axle and frame rails separately or roll the frame rails and complete front end away far enough to get to the problem. Gonna pull it in next week after pto repair on 7060. Any input is appreciated.

I would unbolt frame rails at flywheel hsg and roll it all away. You then have room to work. That's what we did at OH on 8070. Your gonna have to hold up lifters and pull cam or pull gear off it somehow. I can't imagine it being less work to do any other way. You want all the room to work you can get. My opinion.

Yep planned on holding the lifters up with 5/8 dowel sticks and zip ties. Do I need to remove the rad and loosen front bolster bolts or will frame rails sneak past the front plate?

You will need to rebuild or replace front plate and dowel pins. Crossing ditches, when axle hits stops it tries to twist front of engine block, which wares front plate and dowel pins and some times block.           MACK

Been too long...don't remember if took radiator out and am sure there wasn't a problem sliding rails out past plate. Its possible may have loosened one side in bolster but is was attached to a splitting stand so that seems wrong. You'll figure it out. It was not a big challenge or I would have remembered that.

Hitting axle stops is another good reason to leave the front weights on the floor.

Loctite all hardware holding the front plate to the block.

That plate for my 8050 is no longer available through Agco. $200 at salvage yard and you don't know if its any better. This tractor does mow 9 miles of levees every year, it is probably the most brutal thing we do to any tractor. Also this is the 3rd time this has happened to thid tractor since bought new. Last time was about 1500 hrs ago. Thanks for the replies.

Sometimes you can do a shortcut by heating the cam gear and removing the gear.  That way you don't have to pull the cam out and all the work that goes with it.  If I remember right,  the gasket for the front plate is very thin in that one spot and that's where it starts to leak.
