I realize it's not AC, but I am curious about an older split row Cyclo that has 2 seed hoppers, 1 says 800 on it and the other says 955 on it. Were there similarities in the drum units through out the series ? Sadly, this machine doesn't look like it's seen action for a LONG time, yet there's no F/S sign either( it's sitting right along US 20 west of New Carlisle). Just curious is all.

I'm no expert but I have ran one the last couple years for planting beans. The drums from the 800,900, and 955 are the same. I think the 400 and 500 might be too, but I dont know for sure. Do you have any other questions about them? Makes a dang good bean planter. Simple to fill and simple to empty when your finished.

I have ran them since the 400's came out, 1970's. They make a great bean planter, just auger the hoppers full and go. Way simpler design than deere and more trouble free. Check the opener and closing parts, they are getting expensive to replace.

I had 2 neighbors make bean planters out of them and they did a nice job. Problem is the seals on the drums and hoppers started going bad then the PTO pumps needed work so they stopped using them. We ran Allis planters then went to deere and now KINZE for the last 20 years. Not trying to cause an argument, but I am still a little unclear on what people think is complicated about the deere/kinze mechanical meter or row unit? No pto pump to worry about, no air leaks to concern with, no worry about keeping RPMS up. They have always been reliable and simple for us.

Deere/Kinze finger meters worked fine, when in good condition. Deere bean metering cups were the absolute WORST bean planting machine.

But the Kinze brush meters plant beans better than anything out there. |

I ran a 400 cyclo for years, mine had pto driven fan. If you get it I will tell you a lesson I learned. Planting sunflower, set for population, planted 2/3 of field, ran out of seed, was using the 24 hole drum chart, had a 36 hole drum, made them plenty thick. Just remember to count the drum holes.

IF you can afford it; a JD newer then a 2014 is a great planter but you gotta buy a new tractor to pull it (need 2 hyd pumps). older deere's are junk! might as well buy a kinze.
most people don't keep the opening disc's set correctly and that leads to hair pinning! |
